Sara Ali Khan tears up at Golden Temple before Udta Teer release

Sara Ali Khan got emotional at Amritsar's Golden Temple with co-star Ayushmann Khurrana, days before Udta Teer's October 23 release.

Sara Ali Khan gets emotional at the Golden Temple before Udta Teer

Days before Udta Teer reaches cinemas, Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Dussehra. What began as a quiet pre-release prayer stop turned into a talking point when a clip of Sara wiping away tears at Darbar Sahib spread across social media.

A white-dupatta moment goes viral

Sara later shared a picture with Ayushmann from the shrine. Both were dressed in white with hands folded, and Sara had covered her head with a dupatta. She kept her caption on the festival rather than the film: “Happy Dussehra. Wishing everyone love, luck and laughter.”

Temple visits before a big release are a familiar Bollywood ritual, but the visible emotion made this one feel less staged. It arrives at a moment when the film’s own schedule has already shifted once.

Udta Teer’s release runway

  • Release: October 23 in Indian cinemas, moved from the original October 9 date.
  • Reunion: Sara and Ayushmann return together after Pati Patni Aur Woh Do.
  • Behind the camera: Akash A Kaushik makes his directorial debut, backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.

The cast also includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain.

A Nepal hurdle worth noting

Overseas, the film has hit a wall. Reports say Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology denied permission for public screenings after the Central Film Censor Board reviewed Udta Teer. The board cited Section 8(3) of the National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026.

For Hindi film fans, the practical takeaway is straightforward: the Indian theatrical date is the one to mark. In Nepal, public screenings are off the table unless the decision changes.

The temple visit and the overseas decision together make this release week more eventful than usual. A tearful Sara has given Udta Teer its first emotional talking point; the box office will decide the rest from October 23.
