Dhoomakethu: Netflix OTT Date, Cast and 2.5-Star Review
Dhoomakethu, starring Sajin Gopu and Nikhila Vimal, is reportedly heading to Netflix on Oct 23. Here is what early reviewers and the plot reveal.

Malayalam cinema’s love affair with high-concept comedy continues. Dhoomakethu, Sudhi Madison’s follow-up to Neymar, is reported to be heading to Netflix on October 23, according to Asianet News. The streamer has not yet made an official announcement, so treat the date as a working plan rather than a confirmed premiere.
A wedding day stuck on repeat
Sajin Gopu plays Kuttan, a man with a complicated past who is about to marry Sharmila, played by Nikhila Vimal. The wedding day already feels loaded: it coincides with the arrival of a comet that appears only once every 3,000 years, and the morning is full of ill omens. Kuttan manages to get married, but his honeymoon never really begins. A masked attacker disrupts the celebrations, and Kuttan wakes up to the same day. Every time the attack happens, the loop resets.
Shine Tom Chacko, Ganapathi and Siddharth Bharathan appear in key roles. The screenplay is credited to Sony Babu Antony and Manu Madhusoodanan.
What early reviewers are saying
ETimes gave the film 2.5 out of 5 stars. The review praises Sajin Gopu for keeping the repeating situations engaging, while noting that Nikhila Vimal gets very little to do. Ganapathi, as Kuttan’s friend Anti, is singled out as a genuine surprise.
“Sajin Gopu is his usual energetic self,” the ETimes review said.
The review also flags touches that land well, including a neighbour who tells Kuttan and Anti that Sharmila has a past — and Anti’s advice not to give weight to jealous talk about any pretty girl.
The Netflix question mark
- The reported date: October 23 on Netflix, per Asianet News.
- The caveat: Netflix has not confirmed the premiere.
- The hook: a time loop tied to a comet that appears once every 3,000 years.
- The verdict: 2.5/5 stars from ETimes, with praise for comic energy and criticism of the female lead’s thin part.
Why it’s worth a watchlist slot
For Total Filmi readers who enjoy Malayalam cinema’s genre experiments, Dhoomakethu sits somewhere between a romantic comedy and a puzzle thriller. The time-loop device is familiar, but the film’s attempt to keep each repeat funny may be enough for a lazy-streaming watch. If the 2.5-star score gives you pause, wait for Netflix’s official confirmation and the film’s trailer to decide.
Malayalam cinema continues to feed Indian streaming audiences with compact, idea-first films. Dhoomakethu may not be a festival favourite, but its oddball premise is exactly the kind of title that finds a second life on streaming.
