Dulquer Salmaan owns I’m Game box office failure: Blame me
Dulquer Salmaan read a fan's criticism of I'm Game, agreed the analysis was mostly right, and asked viewers to blame him for the film's box office result.

Dulquer Salmaan is not tiptoeing around the box-office disappointment of I’m Game. In a candid exchange on X, the actor-producer told a fan that the detailed criticism of the film was “mostly right,” that the team had seen the issues, and that outsiders cannot always see the factors that derail a release.
The film, directed by Nahas Hidhayath, had a promising first half but lost impact in the second and ended as a commercial flop. Dulquer also produced the project under his Wayfarer Films banner, so the result stings on both a creative and a business level.
Dulquer’s response, in his own words
When the fan asked if he had read an analysis thread, the actor did not brush it off. He said he had read it, accepted that the fan was mostly right, and added that a team can execute everything correctly only for outside factors to flip the outcome.
“We can do everything right, but outside factors can turn those upside down.”
Dulquer added that it is easy to dissect an end product but never easy to make a film. There is no one formula that can produce a good movie, he argued, and nobody starts a project intending to make a bad one. His closing instruction to the fan was blunt: blame him.
- He read the fan’s full analysis and did not dismiss it.
- He separated effort from outcome: a film can be well-made and still struggle because of external forces.
- He rejected the myth of a fixed formula and accepted personal responsibility.
Why a star owning a flop is rare
Box-office blame in Indian cinema usually travels outward – to the release window, the marketing team, the edits, or the audience’s mood. Dulquer’s answer flips that script. By asking fans to blame him, he protects the cast and crew and changes the conversation from finger-pointing to accountability.
The ensemble included Antony Varghese, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Vinay Forrt, Parth Tiwari, Samyuktha Vishwanathan, Aadam and Ashish Mathew. For a film with that much on the poster, the actor’s public ownership of the result is a significant leadership moment.
The no-formula truth for fans
For filmi fans, the exchange is a useful reset. A familiar face, a strong first half and a committed production house are not guarantees. I’m Game becomes another reminder that momentum is fragile, and that a film lives or dies in the second half as much as in the opening.
Whether the honest reaction changes anything for the film is another matter. But it does raise the stakes for the next Wayfarer Films outing, because fans now know this producer-actor will meet the verdict directly.
