Jailer 2 Jumps 29% on Day 3, Tops Rs 317.15 Crore Worldwide

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 needed a bounce after a soft Friday, and Saturday delivered one. The action drama collected Rs 47.80 crore in India nett on Day 3, a 28.8 per cent jump over Friday’s Rs 37.10 crore, and pushed its worldwide gross to Rs 317.15 crore, according to figures shared by trade website Sacnilk.

A Saturday surge after a Friday wobble

The sequel opened with Rs 59.70 crore in India nett collections on October 15, then slipped to Rs 37.10 crore on Friday. Day 3 reversed the slide, helped by better turnout: overall occupancy across languages rose to 53.9 per cent from 48.2 per cent on Day 2.

The recovery took the three-day India nett total to Rs 144.60 crore and domestic gross to Rs 169.65 crore. Overseas markets added Rs 47.50 crore on Saturday, lifting total overseas gross to Rs 147.50 crore.

Where the audiences turned up

The Tamil version did the heavy lifting, with Rs 34.60 crore from 7,802 shows and 69.1 per cent occupancy. Telugu screenings added Rs 8.50 crore from 2,100 shows at 58.4 per cent occupancy. Hindi and Kannada filled out the rest of the domestic run.

  • Hindi: Rs 4.25 crore from 4,554 shows, 26 per cent occupancy
  • Kannada: Rs 45 lakh from 148 shows, 49 per cent occupancy
  • Night shows: Tamil 2D hit 90.08 per cent occupancy; Telugu 2D reached 74.73 per cent

The film recorded 14,604 shows on Saturday and 3,121,280 footfalls, taking its cumulative footfall count to 9,361,338. Tamil Nadu led the regional chart with Rs 23 crore gross, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined at Rs 9.75 crore, Kerala at Rs 9 crore and Karnataka at Rs 8.50 crore.

Why the rebound matters

For fans of the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel, the Saturday surge is a sign that word of mouth is working where the film is strongest. A big opening is expected for a Rajinikanth release; the real test is whether the film can hold after the initial rush. Friday’s dip looked like a warning, but the jump in occupancy and footfalls suggests core Tamil and Telugu audiences are still turning out.

The cast is built for that. Rajinikanth returns as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, pulled back into the underworld to protect his family and legacy. With Vidya Balan, Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal in key roles, the film is playing to multiple regional audiences rather than relying on one language market alone.

What to watch next

Sunday is the next checkpoint. With the opening weekend not yet complete, the key is whether Jailer 2 can hold its Saturday level or push higher. The Hindi version remains the soft spot at 26 per cent occupancy from 4,554 shows; if that number improves, the all-India total will look very different by the end of the weekend.

For fans planning a trip to the theatre, the occupancy pattern says late shows are where the energy is right now — and the film’s night-show strength is a good reason to book ahead.
