Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 Clears U/A 16+, Runs 165 Minutes

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has been certified U/A 16+ at 165 minutes, about three minutes shorter than the original, ahead of its October 15 release.

Jailer 2 cleared U/A 16+ at 165 minutes

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed a key pre-release checkpoint. The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel has been certified U/A 16+ by the Central Board of Film Certification, according to certification details doing the rounds online, just over a week before its October 15 worldwide theatrical release.

A 165-minute return for Muthuvel Pandian

If the circulating details hold, the film runs 165 minutes and 18 seconds. That is just under two hours and 45 minutes, and only about three minutes shorter than 2023’s Jailer, which clocked in at roughly 168 minutes. In other words, the sequel is not trying to speed-run the franchise.

The U/A 16+ rating means the CBFC has cleared the film for audiences under 16 only with parental guidance. For families planning to watch, that is a practical detail: this is not a soft family certificate, and the action is likely to carry the same stylised edge Nelson brought to the first film.

Sun Pictures, the production banner, has not yet made an official announcement about the certificate or final runtime.

Who is in the frame

The sequel brings Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian, and the cast has grown around him. Along with returning actors, the new names in the ensemble include:

  • SJ Suryah
  • Vidya Balan
  • Suraj Venjaramoodu
  • Mithun Chakraborty

Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are also confirmed to return to the franchise, while Anirudh Ravichander handles the music and background score.

Why the runtime card matters

For fans, the certification is more than paperwork. It confirms that Jailer 2 is locked for its release date and gives the clearest idea yet of the film’s scale. At 165 minutes, the sequel is positioned exactly where the first film succeeded: as a long, interval-friendly action entertainer with room for hero flourishes and a cameo-stacked ensemble.

From an exhibitor’s point of view, a 165-minute film is also a scheduling choice. It means fewer shows per screen in a day, so the first-weekend business will lean on premium pricing, fan-first occupancy and the expanded cast to justify the longer holding time. The certificate card is an early signal of that box-office strategy.

The trailer has already shown Muthuvel Pandian being pulled back into a violent world, and the U/A 16+ tag suggests the film is not softening its edges for a wider rating.

What to watch next

With certification and runtime now in place, all that remains is the final promotional push and the opening-day verdict. For Rajinikanth fans, October 15 is now a date with certainty, and advance booking chatter will be the next real indicator of how big the sequel opens.
