Jumanji: Open World Sets Christmas Release, Clashes With King

Dwayne Johnson drops the first Jumanji: Open World poster, locking December 25, 2026, and a holiday face-off with Shah Rukh Khan's King.

Jumanji: Open World Sets Christmas Release, Clashes With King

Dwayne Johnson has given fans their clearest look yet at Jumanji: Open World, and the big date is now official. The first poster arrived on Monday and confirms that the next instalment in the adventure franchise will open exclusively in cinemas on December 25, 2026. That places it in the same holiday corridor where Shah Rukh Khan’s King is also expected to arrive, turning Christmas into a genuine box-office face-off for Indian audiences.

A final game spills out of the console

The poster carries the tagline, “Two worlds collide. One final game,” and Johnson described the film as the franchise’s final game. He wrote: “#Jumanji: Open World – the last game is coming exclusively to movie theatres CHRISTMAS DAY.” The image shows Johnson with Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart alongside animals, hinting that creatures make their way out of the game and run loose in the real world.

Johnson also reflected on the franchise, writing: “All jokes aside, our Jumanji journey has been the greatest of a lifetime.”

Who is back for the last game

The principal cast returns: Johnson as Dr Xander ‘Smolder’ Bravestone, Kevin Hart as Franklin Finbar, Jack Black as Professor Sheldon Oberon and Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse. The ensemble also includes Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Awkwafina, Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito. Jake Kasdan, who directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, returns to direct.

Why the Christmas date matters

December 25 is one of the most valuable dates on the release calendar. Families are on holiday, multiplexes add shows, and a well-marketed event film can open big. Here is what the frame now looks like:

  • Jumanji: Open World opens on December 25, 2026.
  • Shah Rukh Khan’s King is also scheduled for the holiday period.
  • Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday release a week earlier on December 18.

Reading it as counterprogramming

This is less about one film beating another and more about two titles carving out different audiences. Jumanji: Open World is a four-quadrant family adventure; King will lean on Shah Rukh Khan’s enormous fan base and event-scale star power. If both films hold their core crowds, the holiday window can expand. If they cannibalise each other, screen allocation and opening-day word of mouth will decide the winner.

What to watch next

For Hindi film fans, the practical question is simple: which ticket gets booked first. The poster gives Jumanji a clear marketing hook, but King has not yet put its full campaign in front of audiences. Advance booking, trailer drops and screen counts in the final week will reveal how the clash is shaping up.
