Karisma Kapoor may join Salman Khan in Koffee With Karan 9 opener

Karisma Kapoor is reportedly set for a surprise appearance in the Salman Khan-led premiere of Koffee With Karan's final season, out October 14.

Karisma Kapoor set for Koffee With Karan 9 opener with Salman

Karan Johar’s celebrity chat show is heading into its final run, and the opening couch already has a surprise in the mix. Koffee With Karan 9 premieres on JioHotstar on October 14, with Salman Khan leading the episode as the sole guest. But according to a Variety India report, Karisma Kapoor is set to make an unexpected appearance in the same episode.

If true, it adds a twist to what is otherwise being positioned as a tight, single-guest opener — a departure from the show’s familiar pairing of celebrities.

The couch gets a surprise

The report says Kapoor will make a surprise appearance, though the length of her segment is still not known. It is unclear whether she will sit down for a full chat or pop in briefly during Khan’s conversation with Johar.

For a show built on lively, sometimes awkward, star exchanges, that uncertainty is part of the appeal. It gives the premiere a “watch it to find out” hook without stretching the format beyond its usual talk-show boundaries.

A pairing built on 90s nostalgia

Khan and Kapoor’s history makes the cameo feel more meaningful than a random celebrity drop-in. The two first shared screen space in Jaagruti and Nishchaiy, both released in 1992.

Their most-loved collaborations include:

  • Jaagruti (1992)
  • Nishchaiy (1992)
  • Andaz Apna Apna
  • Judwaa
  • Biwi No. 1
  • Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge

That run made them a familiar on-screen pair through the 1990s and early 2000s, so even a short appearance on the final season could carry a strong nostalgic pull. For Hindi film fans, the cameo is less about Koffee’s couch and more about that 1990s-to-early-2000s pop-culture memory, giving the opener a reason to trend beyond the usual “who said what” clips.

What to watch around the premiere

The ninth season is being billed as the final instalment of the Karan Johar-hosted series, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday. The opener’s mix of a solo guest and a reported surprise appearance is a clear play for both loyal viewers and casual Bollywood fans.

On the work front, Salman Khan is attached to Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, and the action entertainer Monstare with Nayanthara, which has been announced for an Eid 2027 release. Kapoor, meanwhile, recently returned to streaming with the investigative thriller Brown, directed by Abhinay Deo, where she plays Rita Brown.
