Soori’s Mandaadi heads to Netflix after ₹150 crore run
Soori's Tamil hit Mandaadi begins streaming on Netflix in five languages on October 8 after crossing ₹100 crore in Tamil Nadu and ₹150 crore worldwide.

After a theatrical run that made it the biggest commercial success of Soori’s career as a lead, Mandaadi is heading to Netflix. The Tamil hit will begin streaming on October 8 in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.
A milestone run
On Monday, Soori took to X to celebrate the film’s latest box-office numbers. Mandaadi has crossed ₹100 crore gross in Tamil Nadu and surpassed ₹150 crore worldwide. He called it the “Biggest Blockbuster of the Year” and shared that the celebrations are only getting bigger.
The milestone matters because the film had already become the highest-grossing release of Soori’s career in a lead role before these latest figures arrived. Netflix India South shared the streaming poster with the October 8 date.
What Mandaadi is about
Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, Mandaadi is built around a traditional sailboat race practised along the Tamil Nadu coastline. Soori plays Muthukaali, a skilled boat racer whose life takes a different turn before circumstances bring him back to the sport. Suhas plays his rival, and the story rests on the rivalry between two teams and the high stakes of an annual race.
The cast also includes Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan and Stun Siva. The sailing sequences were mounted on a considerable scale, with stunt choreography by Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbarayan and Mahesh Mathew.
Why the streaming release matters
A few things make this Netflix date bigger than a routine post-theatrical drop:
- Five languages: the film will stream in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, widening its audience well beyond the Tamil market.
- Soori’s breakout lead: this is his biggest lead success, after the Viduthalai films with Vetri Maaran helped him make the transition to leading roles.
- Industry respect: Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and Vetri Maaran have all praised the team.
Kamal Haasan met the film’s team after a special screening and appreciated the writing and dialogues. Soori later described the meeting as one of the most unforgettable moments of his life. Vetri Maaran, meanwhile, praised Soori’s dedication to the project.
For Hindi film fans and south cinema loyalists alike, this is a chance to see a crowd-pleasing regional hit that rides on local texture rather than familiar star machinery. The boat-race setting gives the action a specific identity, and Soori’s performance keeps the spectacle grounded.
How to watch it
If you missed Mandaadi in cinemas, the Netflix drop from October 8 is the easiest way to catch up. For the fullest experience, watch the Tamil version with subtitles; if you prefer the Hindi dub, it is part of the five-language rollout. The film is produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner, with music by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by SR Kathir and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
