Mrunal Thakur on Raaka Buzz: No Film in Nine Months

Mrunal Thakur says she hasn't signed any film in almost nine months and will announce her next project herself, amid Raaka casting speculation.

Mrunal Thakur: No Film in Almost 9 Months

For months, trade circles have floated Mrunal Thakur’s name as a possible face of Allu Arjun and Atlee’s sci-fi action drama Raaka. Now the actor has stepped in to draw one clear line: nothing is signed, and when there is news, it will come from her.

Clearing the air on Raaka

Asked directly about the casting speculation, Thakur told Mid-day, as quoted by The Times of India, “I haven’t signed any film in almost nine months.” She said she is waiting for a meaningful role and added that any future announcement will first appear on her own social media handle before she discusses it.

What she did not do, notably, was confirm or deny Raaka outright. That leaves a small window of possibility, but the larger signal is clear: fans should not take trade chatter as fact.

Why the Raaka buzz matters

Raaka is a high-stakes project. It is Allu Arjun’s next after Pushpa 2 and Atlee’s first after directing Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan. Deepika Padukone has already been announced as the female lead. The title and first poster arrived on Allu Arjun’s birthday, showing him in a stark new look: bald, kohl-lined eyes, a heavy grey beard and a clawed hand over part of his face.

The impressive scale means casting rumours multiply quickly. Along with Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna, Janhvi Kapoor and Aishwarya Lekshmi have been linked to the film, but the makers have not confirmed their involvement. Reports have also suggested Allu Arjun could play multiple roles, though that detail remains unofficial.

What to watch next

For fans, this is a small masterclass in reading film announcements responsibly.

  • Only Deepika Padukone’s casting in Raaka is official among the women reportedly considered.
  • Thakur has gone almost nine months without signing any film.
  • Her next project will first be announced on her social media handle.

Thakur was last in theatres with the David Dhawan romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, alongside Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde. She was also seen in Pooja Meri Jaan with Huma Qureshi and Vijay Raaz, which released directly on OTT after a long delay. Until she posts, any Raaka link remains speculation.
