Navratri Day 2: Bollywood Proves White Is the Boldest Colour

From Alia Bhatt's embellished anarkali to Sanskruti Jayana's boho kaftan, Bollywood shows how to make Navratri Day 2 white truly feel festive.

Bollywood's White Navratri Look Book

Navratri’s colour chart moves quickly, and Day 2 asks for white—a shade dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini that symbolises peace and purity. That brief can sound like the safe, quiet option. Judging by Bollywood’s latest festive edit, safe is no longer the point.

From understated anarkalis to a boho kaftan, the industry’s leading women treated white as a blank canvas and then layered it with texture, jewellery and one bold colour accent. The result is a proper look book for anyone still planning their Day 2 outfit.

What the stars wore

The white edit leaned traditional first, but it did not stay there for long.

  • Alia Bhatt kept it understated in a white anarkali with a slightly embellished bodice and chand baliyan.
  • Kriti Sanon went the classic route in an ivory lehenga piled with chunky gold necklaces.
  • Rashmika Mandanna chose a white saree with gold embellishments and a red blouse.
  • Yami Gautam added mirror work and gold embroidery to her white anarkali, finished with dangling earrings.
  • Janhvi Kapoor took the shimmer route, Ananya Panday kept it contemporary and Sara Ali Khan stayed effortless in a chikankari kurta set.

Genelia Deshmukh turned heads in a shiny white saree with pearl detailing, while Sanskruti Jayana closed the edit in a flowy white kaftan-style gown. Its colourful floral sleeve embroidery, chunky statement necklace and soft curls proved white works just as well when you step away from traditional silhouettes.

The styling thread

The looks differ, but the accessories speak the same language: gold jhumkas, pearl chokers and one deliberate pop of colour through a dupatta or blouse. That is the real message here. White does not have to read as plain, minimal or bridal. With the right jewellery it can feel as festive as any red or yellow on the Navratri calendar.

Rashmika’s red blouse is the clearest example—one strong colour contrast turns a white saree into a Day 2 statement. Kriti’s chunky gold layers make an ivory lehenga feel rich rather than washed out. And Yami’s mirror work shows that texture can do the job when you want to skip loud colour.

Make Day 2 your own

If you are dressing for Day 2, start with the silhouette you actually enjoy: anarkali, lehenga, saree or even a relaxed kaftan. Then pick two of the three styling moves the stars returned to—gold jhumkas, pearl chokers or a red/coral accent—and stop there. White does the rest.

The edit is a reminder that festive dressing is not about owning the loudest outfit; it is about finishing a simple base with intent. On a day associated with peace and purity, that feels exactly right.
