Ranabaali Opens at Rs 16.50 Crore as Vanga Praises Cast
Sandeep Reddy Vanga praised Ranabaali and its lead pair after the period drama opened at Rs 16.50 crore worldwide gross.

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s new period drama Ranabaali has received a vocal boost from Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and its first-day box office points to a steady start. Released on October 16, 2026, the film grossed Rs 16.50 crore worldwide on day one, according to Sacnilk.
Why Vanga’s praise matters
The Animal director is no stranger to polarizing conversations, but his social media post about Ranabaali reads like a straightforward push for a film he believes in. He asked audiences to watch it for Vijay Deverakonda’s “outstanding character portrayal” and said the lead pair is “far beyond chemistry.”
Vanga also pointed to Rashmika Mandanna’s Jayamma, writing that the performance “felt so achingly real.” He praised Ajay-Atul’s music and thanked director Rahul Sankrityan for bringing care and curiosity to the story. The endorsement matters because Vanga, currently attached to Spirit, has a large following that takes his recommendations seriously.
The first-day numbers
The opening-day picture is a useful benchmark. Ranabaali opened across 2,515 shows in India, recorded 57 percent occupancy and sold 711,679 tickets.
- Worldwide gross: Rs 16.50 crore
- India net: Rs 9.25 crore
- Domestic gross: Rs 10.75 crore
- Overseas gross: Rs 5.75 crore
- Shows: 2,515
- Occupancy: 57%
- Footfalls: 711,679
That is a credible open for a Telugu period drama, though the film is not leading the weekend race. Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, which arrived a day earlier, is creating more impact at the box office.
A history worth returning to
Ranabaali uses the Great Famine of 1876–78 as its setting. The film follows Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali and his resistance against the British regime. This is the “serious academic interest” Vanga referred to — a chapter he says school textbooks were reluctant to show audiences.
For Hindi film fans who watch southern cinema, that is the film’s biggest hook. It promises an action drama built around a real historical wound, not just a lavish backdrop. The Deverakonda-Rashmika pairing is part of the draw too, with Vanga framing their connection as one that can “transcend the screen.”
What to watch for
Go for Vijay’s character work and Rashmika’s Jayamma, and stay for Ajay-Atul’s score. If you are tracking the collection race, however, Jailer 2 looks like the stronger commercial draw this weekend. The real test for Ranabaali will be Monday, when word of mouth and the film’s historical hook either keep footfalls steady or let them slide.
