Ranabaali at Rs 78.90 cr worldwide, still short of its budget

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's period epic has grossed Rs 78.90 crore worldwide in 14 days, below its reported Rs 120-150 crore budget.

Ranabaali at Rs 78.90 cr worldwide, still short of its budget

Fourteen days into its theatrical run, Ranabaali is showing both the pull of a star-led period epic and the pressure of a pricey production. The Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna film has collected Rs 78.90 crore gross worldwide, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India.

That number is the headline. The question it leaves behind is how far the film still has to go against a reported production budget of Rs 120 crore to Rs 150 crore. By that estimate, the worldwide gross is currently Rs 41 crore to Rs 71 crore short of the production investment.

Day 14: a small dip, a big second-week slowdown

On Thursday, October 29, the Telugu action drama added Rs 95 lakh net in India from 1,449 shows. That is a 5% drop from Wednesday’s Rs 1 crore. The domestic net total now stands at Rs 57.30 crore, while India gross is Rs 66.55 crore. Overseas markets contributed Rs 15 lakh on Thursday, taking the overseas gross to Rs 12.35 crore.

The second week has been steady but smaller than the opening frame.

  • Second Friday: Rs 2.10 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 2.80 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 2.90 crore
  • Monday to Thursday: Rs 1.25 crore, Rs 1.10 crore, Rs 1 crore, Rs 95 lakh

That gives the second week Rs 12.10 crore so far, against Rs 45.20 crore in week one. Day 14 occupancy was 14.03% overall, with afternoon shows best at 14.75% and night shows at 13%. The film recorded 98,911 admissions on Thursday, taking cumulative footfalls to 4,679,624.

The budget gap is not the whole ledger

A straight comparison of theatrical gross and production budget can look alarming. But the Ranabaali story is more layered. According to a Samayam Telugu report cited by TOI, the film had already recovered an estimated Rs 42 crore to Rs 60 crore before release through digital streaming and satellite rights.

That pre-release recovery does not erase the theatrical shortfall, but it changes the financial picture. An estimated Rs 30 crore to Rs 60 crore of the budget reportedly went to actors and technicians, including the lead pair. The final result will depend on the full revenue and expenditure picture once theatrical, streaming and other rights are counted.

What to watch next

The film released on October 16 and is now in its third week. The key test is whether the weekday slide stabilises and whether the long run adds enough to narrow the reported gap. For fans, the numbers matter less than the experience, but for a big-canvas Telugu action epic, the economics will shape how many more such films get greenlit.
