Ranabaali makers deny Rs 50 ticket-hike reports

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's period action drama will open at standard rates, its makers say, after denying a Rs 50 hike in AP.

Makers: no Rs 50 ticket hike for Ranabaali

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s period action drama Ranabaali is set to open in cinemas on October 16, 2026. Days before the Dussehra release, the makers have moved to end one piece of speculation: the film is not seeking a ticket-price increase in the Telugu states.

The clarification

On X, the production house said reports of a Rs 50 hike in Andhra Pradesh were “completely false.” It added that it had not applied for a ticket-price increase in either Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, and that Ranabaali would be released at standard ticket prices across both states.

The statement was brief, but the timing matters. In recent release cycles, the question of whether a film gets premium pricing for premiere shows and the first weekend has become a familiar talking point before a major Telugu title arrives.

Where the pricing debate comes from

Big-budget Telugu films often request approval for higher rates on opening shows, arguing that the first few days carry the heaviest demand. For audiences, those hikes can make a family trip to the theatre costlier. For the trade, they are a way to maximise opening-weekend returns.

Ranabaali is taking the opposite path. By keeping standard rates in place, the makers are positioning the film as a more accessible festive outing, especially for families and fans planning to watch during the Dussehra season.

What we know about the film

  • Release date: October 16, 2026.
  • Director: Rahul Sankrityan.
  • Leads: Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna.
  • Antagonist: Arnold Vosloo as Sir Theodore Hector.
  • Setting: The Madras Famine of 1876–78, framed as a resistance story.
  • Reunion: The leads have earlier shared screen space in Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.

In the film, Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, the central character’s wife and companion. The project is planned as a multilingual release, which could widen its audience beyond the Telugu market during a high-profile festive window.

Why this matters for moviegoers

For fans, the clarification removes a small but real question mark before the holiday. A standard ticket price means the film competes on story, star pull and word of mouth rather than a special opening-day surcharge. It also offers a contrast with the now-common pattern of event pricing for marquee Telugu releases.

For the exhibition sector, a star-led film choosing standard rates also tests whether attendance volume can make up for the premium layer that other releases count on. Whether the decision translates into stronger family turnout remains to be seen, but the makers clearly want the conversation to return to the film itself, not to the cost of watching it.

With the pricing speculation put to rest, the focus now shifts to the final stretch of promotion and to how Ranabaali lands when it arrives on October 16.
