Vijay Devarakonda: Ranabaali Is His Bloody Comeback Promise

At its Hyderabad pre-release event, Vijay Devarakonda tied Ranabaali to his comeback promise and said it will make Telugu cinema proud.

Vijay Devarakonda: Ranabaali Is His Bloody Comeback Promise

Vijay Devarakonda’s Ranabaali arrives in cinemas this Friday, but the launch conversation has already begun. At the film’s pre-release event at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad, the star made a broad claim about the Rahul Sankrityan-directed period action drama: it “will make the Telugu film industry proud.”

A mass period drama with a purpose

Devarakonda described Sankrityan as a director who wanted to make a mass period action drama and researched extensively before writing. That process, he said, surfaced a little-known chapter of history. The star’s argument was that a normal historical would not have had the same impact; a clear purpose is what gave the project its large-canvas ambition. He also thanked producers Naveen and Ravi for backing it.

The comeback promise, renewed

The event quickly turned personal. Devarakonda linked Ranabaali to the criticism he faced around Taxiwaala after the NOTA failure. Back then, he wrote a letter promising to return while knowing, as he put it, that some people were enjoying his failure. On this stage, he repeated the spirit of that promise: “I will be bloody back when I say it.” If the new film works, he added, he will remind the naysayers in Anantapur.

The framing matters because Devarakonda has often built his public image around underdog energy. Instead of leaving the low moments behind, he is folding them into the film’s launch story, making the opening weekend feel tied to his own arc as much as to Sankrityan’s period world.

Why filmi fans are watching

  • Scale: Mythri Movie Makers is credited by the star with pushing the limits of Telugu cinema.
  • Music: Devarakonda called Ajay-Atul’s “Endhayya Saami” another magical addition to his filmography.
  • Pairing: He praised Rashmika Mandanna’s growth as a performer and said working with her feels like home.

The Friday test

For fans of the southern industries, the immediate step is simple: mark the release and sample “Endhayya Saami” for a sense of the film’s tone. The larger test comes at the box office, where the researched period canvas, the star’s comeback framing and the music will either convert into first-day energy or stay as pre-release confidence. For the wider Telugu film industry, a strong opening would also encourage more such swings into period action drama.
