Crazy Kalyanam review: 2.75/5 for a half-good family drama
Crazy Kalyanam pairs Anupama Parameswaran and Naresh in a family dramedy rated 2.75/5 — first-half laughs, a dragged wedding stretch, and a mixed verdict.

Crazy Kalyanam opened on October 16 as a family dramedy built around a likable cast — Anupama Parameswaran, Tharun Bhascker and Naresh — but its review score of 2.75/5 tells a two-halves story.
Keerthi (Anupama Parameswaran) is an MSc graduate trying hard to secure a government job. Her father Parvathaalu (Naresh) is already dealing with a drunkard son-in-law, Balraj (Tharun Bhascker), so he pins his hopes on a decent marriage for his younger daughter. When she falls for Uday (Akhil Raj), a handloom weaver, the gap between parental expectation and her choice becomes the film’s engine.
Naresh holds the first hour
The early stretches work because the comedy stays rooted in that father-daughter tension. Naresh gets the best material, and the review singles out his comic timing and his ability to shift into emotional gear without losing the audience. Anupama Parameswaran is also praised for making Keerthi feel self-reliant rather than simply rebellious, while Tharun Bhascker and Akhil Raj are solid in support.
After the interval, the narrative thins
The second half is where the film loses its sure-footedness. The wedding episode runs long, and the director appears to stuff the stretch with multiple emotional subplots that never properly connect. A sudden transformation in Tharun Bhascker’s character is noted as artificial, and a late plot twist requires Naresh to hold back his emotions in a way the writing has not earned. The review describes these turns as overly melodramatic rather than moving.
On the technical side, Suresh Bobbili’s songs and background score are called neat, and Shyam Dupati’s cinematography is pleasant. The edit, however, could have been sharper in the second half.
Total Filmi take
For Hindi and Indian cinema fans tracking Telugu releases, Crazy Kalyanam is a watchable-but-uneven family film. The cast is enough to keep it afloat, but the back half asks for patience.
- Rating: 2.75 out of 5 from 123telugu.com.
- Best stretch: the comedy-led first hour with Naresh.
- Weakest stretch: the lengthy marriage episode and the abrupt emotional wrap-up.
If you plan to watch, go for the performances and the early family comedy. Do not wait for the second half to deliver a tidy emotional payoff; it is best enjoyed as a light half-good dramedy. For those who value Naresh’s brand of comedy, that may be enough for a matinee; others may prefer to wait.
