TV Actor Anuj Thakur Dies at 33 After Seizure in Sleep

TV actor Anuj Thakur has died at 33 after a seizure during sleep. Friend Rupesh Sonar confirmed the news; fans are remembering his Mahisagar and Disney roles.

TV Actor Anuj Thakur Dies at 33 After Seizure in Sleep

Television actor Anuj Thakur, best known to Hindi TV audiences as Sagar Mehta in the sitcom Mahisagar, died on October 27 at the age of 33. The news was confirmed by his close friend and casting director Rupesh Sonar, who said Thakur suffered a seizure during sleep.

A friend confirms the sudden loss

Sonar, who had known Thakur since 2008, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. The two had worked together on several television shows over the years, and Sonar had last met Thakur about ten days before his death.

Speaking to Times of India, Sonar described how the loss unfolded. “I was shocked to hear that he had gone to sleep at night and never woke up,” he said. Thakur usually woke at 4.30 am for a fitness routine, but that morning his alarm rang and he did not get up. His mother went to his room and found that he had died.

A familiar face on Indian television

Anuj Thakur began his acting journey with the Disney Channel teen show Dhoom Machao Dhoom. He later became a recognisable presence across Hindi television, and his work included:

  • Bandhan Saat Janamon Ka
  • Beend Banoongaa Ghodi Chadhunga
  • Mahisagar, where he played Sagar Mehta

That final role became a career milestone and earned him recognition among television audiences.

Why this loss hits hard

At 33, Thakur’s death is a jolt for colleagues and fans alike. Sonar remembered him as a generous and wonderful human being, someone he considered a younger brother. What stands out in Sonar’s account is the detail of the 4.30 am alarm: a routine morning turned into an unimaginable loss, with no chance to say goodbye.

That attachment helps explain the outpouring. TV actors may not get the same red-carpet attention as film stars, but they enter living rooms through characters that run for years. For many viewers, Thakur was part of the everyday texture of Indian television, and his passing feels personal.

Fans gather around his final post

After the news broke, fans turned to Thakur’s last Instagram post, which features pictures from his July 2026 trip to South Africa. The comments have been flooded with emotional tributes. For viewers who grew up with his shows, revisiting Mahisagar or leaving a respectful message is a quiet way to remember him. The family has confirmed the circumstances, so it is best to avoid speculation and let their account guide the conversation.
