Kareena Serves Lando Chai, Jokes Saif’s F1 Win Came 19 Years Ago

Kareena Serves Chai and a Ta Ra Rum Pum Callback to Lando Norris

Bollywood met Formula 1 at the Singapore Grand Prix when Kareena Kapoor Khan sat down with McLaren’s Lando Norris for a chat that was equal parts racing, film nostalgia and Indian hospitality.

A Bollywood F1 champion enters the chat

Rather than leading with Norris’s real-world credentials, Kareena opened with a playful family flex: Saif Ali Khan had already played a racing driver who wins a world championship in the 2007 film Ta Ra Rum Pum.

‘Saif won the world championship 19 years ago,’ she told Norris, who quickly joined in. ‘So, we are the same, basically,’ he replied.

The exchange folded a fictional movie title into a real F1 conversation, a nod long-time Bollywood fans would catch instantly.

Chai, quick-fire questions and the Papaya Family

The meeting, shared by Google India on Instagram on Friday evening, was not a formal interview. Kareena served Norris masala chai, walked him through some common Indian gestures, and ran him through a rapid-fire round about his career and McLaren’s milestones.

Norris, who has driven for McLaren since his 2018 Formula 1 debut, played along as the clip balanced sport talk with the kind of light ribbing that makes crossover content travel.

Earlier in the day McLaren had welcomed Kareena to its Papaya Family, the team’s global fan community, writing: ‘The newest member of the Papaya Family, Kareena Kapoor Khan.’

A signed jersey for Jeh

For Kareena, the moment also had a personal touch. Norris signed a jersey for her younger son, Jehangir, and she shared the picture with her followers, captioning it ‘For Jeh baba’ with a red heart.

She later posted a collage of pictures with Norris beside a Ta Ra Rum Pum poster and wrote, ‘My love for Formula One drivers is real.’

The line doubled as a callback to her husband’s fictional racing days and an explanation for why this particular celebrity-sport crossover felt so natural.

Why this crossover works

For Hindi film fans, the appeal is simple:

  • Nostalgia: Ta Ra Rum Pum is a familiar family film that gives the F1 link a Bollywood anchor.
  • Star power: Kareena is comfortable in a fan-first, playful register, not a stiff PR setting.
  • Culture on screen: Masala chai and Indian gestures turn a motorsport moment into a culturally legible one.

What kept the moment from feeling like a brand plug was the register. Kareena was introduced as a fan first, welcomed into the team’s community before the chat, and the video let the banter carry the story rather than a list of McLaren statistics.

What’s next for Kareena

On the work front, Kareena was last seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra. The crime thriller, also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jitendra Joshi and Kanwaljit Singh, casts Kareena and Prithviraj as police officers on opposite sides of a juvenile-crime case.

Inspired by true events, the film released in theatres on September 18 and received mixed reviews from audiences and critics.
