11 Years On, Mohanlal Approves Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam Finale
The Malayalam star who originated Drishyam has publicly praised Ajay Devgn's closing chapter, calling it a befitting end to the loved journey.

Mohanlal, the actor who first lived the Drishyam story on screen, has publicly approved its Hindi closing chapter. After watching Drishyam: The Conclusion, he shared a video message congratulating Ajay Devgn, director Abhishek Pathak, and producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Alok Jain.
“I watched Drishyam: The Conclusion and I am truly impressed with the way they have brought a much loved journey to a befitting end.”
He added that the cast and crew had done “a job so well done.” The message arrived after the film’s theatrical run began on October 2, 2026.
Why an original star’s approval matters
Drishyam is one of Indian cinema’s most durable story worlds. Mohanlal headlined the 2013 Malayalam original, and Ajay Devgn’s Hindi version began in 2015 as a remake. For the Hindi team, a word from the actor who started the journey carries more weight than a box-office report. It reads as a respectful handover.
The story returns to Vijay Salgaonkar as law enforcement reopens the murder investigation that threatens his family. Abhishek Pathak directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh.
The ensemble and the stakes
The final chapter brings back Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav, and adds Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj to the franchise. It is produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, Ajit Andhare and Alok Jain under Panorama Studios and Star Studio18.
Who drew Mohanlal’s praise
- Actor: Ajay Devgn
- Director: Abhishek Pathak
- Producers: Kumar Mangat Pathak and Alok Jain
On the video, fans read the gesture as class. One wrote that it takes a secure personality to appreciate someone else like this. Tabu, who returns in the franchise, left heart emojis in the comments.
What the approval changes
For Bollywood fans, the original star’s nod does something practical. Remakes and finales often open with a built-in doubt: will this honour the source? Mohanlal’s message answers that doubt directly, and he does it without revealing the ending. The approval also shifts attention back to the story, where it belongs.
An affectionate full stop
Ajay Devgn has now played Vijay Salgaonkar for 11 years, beginning with the 2015 remake. India Today’s review observed that he has made Vijay his own, distinct from Mohanlal’s Kutty. That distinction is part of what makes the Hindi version work: it echoes the original without imitating it.
For fans who have followed the Salgaonkar story since 2015, Mohanlal’s message offers a warm, clean close. The finale is in theatres now, and the original star has already told you why it deserves the trip.
