Ranabaali gets U/A, zero cuts; Oct 16 clash with Jailer 2
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's period drama Ranabaali gets a U/A with no cuts and releases October 16, a day after Rajinikanth's Jailer 2.

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s period drama Ranabaali is heading into its October 16 release with a clean censor report. According to an Aakashavaani report cited by India Today, the film has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification and passed the examination without any cuts.
That removes one uncertainty for the Telugu-language film, which opens worldwide a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 arrives in cinemas.
Why a no-cuts U/A matters
A U/A certificate means children below 12 can watch with parental guidance, a workable rating for a historical action drama that needs room for combat and emotionally intense scenes while still reaching families. A clean pass with no requested alterations is also a signal that the version the makers submitted is the version audiences will see on screen.
For a film built around resistance and colonial oppression, that detail matters: the board did not ask the team to soften the story.
The story and the cast
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali is not a conventional biopic. It draws from a historical period and centres on the struggles of people in Rayalaseema during British colonial rule.
- Vijay Deverakonda plays the titular character, a Telugu man from Rayalaseema who rises against British oppression.
- Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, his wife and companion in the fight.
- Arnold Vosloo plays Sir Theodore Hector, the English antagonist.
The teaser and trailer have positioned the film as a story of someone who refuses to accept the exploitation of his people. It also marks another big-screen pairing for Vijay and Rashmika after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. The film is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers and associated with T-Series.
For Hindi film fans who follow the southern industries, this is a chance to catch a Telugu period drama on the big screen. The Vijay-Rashmika chemistry is likely to be a central draw, and the historical setting gives the film scale beyond a star vehicle.
October 16 is the real test
Releasing a day after Jailer 2 means the two films will compete for screens, audience attention and opening-day momentum. Rajinikanth’s sequel starts from a stronger franchise position, but Ranabaali brings a different pitch: an original historical resistance drama led by a popular on-screen pair.
The no-cuts U/A certificate clears one hurdle. The bigger question is whether the film can hold its own when the box-office window is shared with a major Tamil sequel. For fans, the weekend shapes up as a two-film event.
