Ramayana Part 1 sets November 5, 2026 release date
Rakul Preet Singh speaks about playing Surpanakha as Nitesh Tiwari’s ensemble epic locks its worldwide theatrical date, with Part 2 planned for Diwali 2027.

Rakul Preet Singh is stepping into one of Indian cinema’s most closely watched epics. At the international trailer launch of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana in Bengaluru, the actor confirmed she will play Surpanakha, adding another key figure to the film’s sprawling ensemble.
Bengaluru, first film and a full circle
For Rakul, the launch city carried personal weight. She recalled that her first film happened in Bengaluru, a place she said gave her love even before she was sure acting was the right path. “So, Bangalore is a very special place for me,” she said. Ramayana: Part 1 brings her back to the city at a very different moment in her career.
Inside the two-part plan
The adaptation is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. It is designed as a two-part film, with Part 1 arriving first and the second instalment planned for Diwali 2027. The worldwide theatrical date for Ramayana: Part 1 is November 5, 2026.
The ensemble behind the epic
Rakul’s Surpanakha joins a high-profile cast:
- Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama
- Sai Pallavi as Sita
- Yash as Ravana
- Sunny Deol as Hanuman
- Ravi Dubey as Lakshman
At the launch, Rakul praised the performances across the board. “Everyone’s performed really well,” she said, adding that she hopes the hard work translates into love from audiences. She also credited the scale to Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra, calling the project “a humongous vision.”
Why Surpanakha matters
Surpanakha is far from a decorative entry in the cast list. The character sits at a critical turn in the larger Ramayana narrative, and casting a familiar actor in the role signals how much weight the filmmakers are giving to every part of the story. For Hindi film fans, the November 5 date is the first real test of how this two-part epic treats its source material.
The trailer launch has set the calendar; the next marker is whether the visual world can support the emotional beats audiences already hold close.
