Ranbir Kapoor’s Telugu Thank-You Steals Ramayana Event

Ranbir Kapoor switched to Telugu at the Hyderabad pre-release event for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, and Sai Pallavi's reaction stole the show.

Ranbir's Telugu speech wins hearts at the Ramayana event

Ranbir Kapoor walked on stage at the Hyderabad pre-release event for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend and did the one thing guaranteed to earn the loudest cheer of the evening: he switched to Telugu.

The actor, who plays Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic, first thanked Telugu-speaking fans in English and promised to work hard to give them a memorable big-screen experience. Then he shifted languages for a short, heartfelt thank-you.

Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, watched with a delighted smile as Ranbir told the crowd that coming to Hyderabad is always special and that their love and affection mean a lot to him. He ended with a light confession:

“I hope I have not said anything wrong.”

Videos of the exchange were soon circulating online.

A small gesture, a big pan-India signal

The moment landed because of timing and scale. The film arrives as Ramayana: Part 1 on November 5, in the middle of the Diwali holiday frame. For a project built on Valmiki’s Ramayana, the Telugu-speaking audience is not an afterthought; it is a major piece of the box-office picture.

Pre-release events in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai have become vital stops for big Hindi films chasing a wider footprint. A star who makes the effort in the local language signals that the film is not simply releasing in the south, but showing up for it. The playbook is simple: learn a little of the local language, let the effort feel human, and let the cameras do the rest.

Release details to keep on your radar

  • Release date: November 5, timed to Diwali.
  • Second trailer: shown in Bengaluru on October 15, with Ranbir as Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Jatayu trying to stop Ravana.
  • Global premiere: an invite-only 3D event on October 27 at the David Geffen Theatre, inside the Academy Museum in Los Angeles.
  • Premiere venue: 945 seats, with guests asked to wear traditional Indian attire on the red carpet.
  • Music: AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.

Namit Malhotra produces the film, and the ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol, Arun Govil, Ravi Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh and Lara Dutta.

Why the Telugu clip matters

A polished trailer can show the scale of a film; a spontaneous language switch can show its heart. Ranbir’s mild nervousness about his Telugu made the moment feel authentic, and Sai Pallavi’s reaction gave the clip its emotional hook. Before the team takes the film to a global stage in Los Angeles, Hyderabad has already handed it a warm, shareable pre-release story.
