Yami Gautam on Nayyi Naveli’s ₹20 crore run amid Jailer 2 clash
Yami Gautam Dhar says solo release windows are now rare as Nayyi Naveli runs beside Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, and she's thanking audiences anyway.

Yami Gautam Dhar has made peace with one of the hardest realities of today’s Indian box office: the solo release window is vanishing. Her film Nayyi Naveli opened on October 16, a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and she responded to a fan who praised the film but said its timing was not ideal.
No more solo Fridays
In a post on X, Yami replied to a viewer who wrote that Nayyi Naveli was great but the timing with Jailer 2 was “not optimum.” Her answer was honest about the crowded calendar.
“Nowadays to get a solo or just 2 films release window is difficult.”
She added that it is very difficult to make a successful film today, that she appreciates everyone’s effort, and that she could not be more grateful to audiences for giving the film a chance.
A Thalaivar-sized shadow
The numbers show the scale of the weekend. Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, released on October 15 and has grossed over ₹475 crore worldwide in five days. The film continues the story of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who now takes on a larger idol-smuggling syndicate linked to the gang he defeated in 2023’s Jailer.
Yami did not frame the overlap as a complaint. She called herself a huge Rajinikanth fan and said it was an honour for her small film to release alongside his, adding that she is looking forward to watching Jailer 2 soon.
Know the films
- Nayyi Naveli: Tamil director Balaji Mohan’s Hindi debut; Yami plays Mohini, a woman suspected of being a daayan by her new in-laws.
- Box office: The film has collected close to ₹20 crore worldwide.
- Cast: Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vasisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee and Prateek Pachori star alongside Yami.
- Jailer 2: Rajinikanth leads the Nelson Dilipkumar sequel, which has crossed ₹475 crore in five days.
Why it matters
For Hindi film fans, the shared Friday is now normal. A big event film can soak up screens, media attention and first-weekend buzz, but smaller films can still find an audience when the story connects. Yami’s response is a case study in staying graceful under a blockbuster’s shadow: thank the viewers, respect the giant, and let the work speak.
