Jolly LLB 4 Goes Back to Arshad Warsi’s Jolly

Arshad Warsi will reprise Jagdish Tyagi in the fourth Jolly LLB film, a prequel directed by Umesh Shukla that wraps shooting by January 2027.

Jolly LLB 4 Goes Back to Arshad Warsi's Jolly

The original Jolly is back

Arshad Warsi is set to return as lawyer Jagdish Tyagi in the fourth Jolly LLB film. India Today reports that the project is in the final stages of pre-production, with filming expected to wrap by January 2027. That timeline is a clear signal for fans: the franchise is moving quickly from announcement to floor.

Umesh Shukla will direct the new instalment. The first three Jolly LLB films were written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, so the fourth film also marks a change behind the camera.

A prequel, not another sequel

The reported plan is to step back, not forward. A source cited in the report says the upcoming film will not continue the story of the earlier instalments; it will instead be a prequel that revisits Jagdish Tyagi’s earlier journey.

Warsi first played Jolly in the 2013 film, which followed a small-time lawyer taking on a high-profile case. He sat out the second instalment, where Akshay Kumar entered the franchise as Jagdishwar Mishra, and returned alongside Kumar for Jolly LLB 3’s courtroom face-off.

What the franchise does well

The Jolly LLB films have built their appeal by wrapping sharp observations in laughter. Courtroom battles become a way to talk about justice, privilege and accountability, which is why the original film still resonates with fans.

  • Arshad Warsi returns as lawyer Jagdish Tyagi, the original Jolly.
  • Umesh Shukla directs the fourth film, a reported prequel.
  • Shooting is expected to wrap by January 2027.
  • The film is likely to release later in 2027.

Saurabh Shukla’s judge was a key part of the first film’s identity, and the 2013 cast also included Amrita Rao, Boman Irani, Mohan Kapoor and Sanjay Mishra. It is not yet clear which familiar faces will join Warsi this time.

Why Warsi’s return matters

Bringing back the original Jolly gives the franchise a chance to return to its scrappy, underdog energy. A prequel also frees the makers from extending the Jolly LLB 3 timeline and lets them build a fresh chapter around a character fans already trust.

For now, the title is not final, but the direction is clear: Jolly LLB 4 is heading back to the beginning.

What to keep an eye on

Two details will shape how this film is received. The first is whether Umesh Shukla’s tone matches the satirical voice Subhash Kapoor established. The second is how the prequel sells an earlier chapter of the same character without losing the actor’s present-day charm.

The next milestones are casting and title announcements, followed by production updates as the shoot gets underway.
