Jailer 2 crosses Rs 710 crore worldwide after second-Sunday jump

A second-Sunday push

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed Rs 710 crore in worldwide gross collections, after a stronger second Sunday nudged the film to Rs 710.35 crore. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial collected Rs 25.70 crore net in India on Day 11, a 6.4 per cent rise over Saturday’s Rs 24.15 crore, according to Sacnilk.

The sequel has now banked Rs 398.70 crore net in India, with domestic gross at Rs 466.85 crore and overseas markets at Rs 243.50 crore. It is within touching distance of the Rs 400-crore India net mark.

A closer look at the second weekend

The second weekend finished at Rs 64.35 crore net in India. Here is how the three days built:

  • Friday: Rs 14.50 crore from 10,484 shows, with 26.7 per cent occupancy
  • Saturday: Rs 24.15 crore from a wider release, with 35.8 per cent occupancy
  • Sunday: Rs 25.70 crore from 11,954 shows, with 38 per cent occupancy

Sunday’s number was the strongest of the weekend, but still far from the film’s opening-day India net total of Rs 59.70 crore.

The story so far

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. A fresh underworld threat pulls him back into action to protect his family. The sequel builds on the first Jailer and has drawn reported cumulative footfalls of 26,425,010 so far, including 1,749,982 on Sunday alone.

Where the money is coming from

The Tamil version continues to drive the film. It contributed Rs 17.35 crore on Sunday from 5,683 shows, or 67.5 per cent of the day’s India net collection, with occupancy at 50.1 per cent. The Telugu version added Rs 4.50 crore, the Hindi version Rs 3.15 crore, and the Kannada version Rs 70 lakh.

State-wise, Tamil Nadu accounted for Rs 12.75 crore, or 42.4 per cent of the reported gross, followed by Karnataka at Rs 5.50 crore and the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana region at Rs 4.75 crore. Kerala added Rs 3.30 crore.

What happens next

The big question is whether Jailer 2 can sustain momentum through the weekdays. Its core Tamil audience remains engaged, but the Hindi version is playing a smaller role. If weekday collections hold, the Rs 400-crore India net mark should fall soon; if they dip sharply, the film’s next target could take longer.
