Sai Pallavi’s OM first look: CBI officer driven by loss

OM's first look introduces Sai Pallavi as CBI officer Nithya Reddy, whose red sandalwood smuggling case turns personal through her father's death.

Sai Pallavi's CBI officer brings personal stakes to OM

Duty gets a personal wound in the first glimpse of OM Chapter 1 Udhiram: The Blood Wood. The makers have introduced Sai Pallavi as Nithya Reddy, a CBI officer stepping into a red sandalwood smuggling case that is tied to her own family history.

Who is Nithya Reddy?

Nithya hails from Naidupet in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district. Before the case even begins, the film hands her a reason to care: her father was an Indian Forest Service officer who lost his life protecting the forests. That detail turns what could have been a standard investigative setup into a mission with a family wound.

The first-look video places Pallavi in the officer’s world, with the case framed around red sandalwood smuggling. For fans who have followed her work, this is a shift into a uniformed, investigative space—still emotional, but with the weight of a badge.

Why this reveal matters

OM is not a small title. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, it stars Dhanush and Mammootty in lead roles, with Pallavi stepping in as a central character. The first look is a character introduction rather than a full trailer, so its job is to sell the emotional engine before the plot mechanics.

  • Character: CBI officer Nithya Reddy, from Naidupet, Nellore.
  • Case: red sandalwood smuggling.
  • Personal stake: her IFS officer father died protecting forests.
  • Release: November 20 in cinemas.

One actor, two November releases

While OM readies for November 20, Sai Pallavi is also preparing for her Bollywood debut with Ramayana, where she plays Sita opposite Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama, with Yash as Ravana. That film is scheduled for November 5. The overlap puts Pallavi in two very different registers—mythological drama and uniformed thriller—within the same month.

Ramayana has already been in the news for its music. The song Mangal Rang, built around Rama and Sita’s journey together, drew criticism aimed at AR Rahman over its qawwali-like beats. A scene of women applying haldi to Rama while Sita stood beside him also sparked debate, with some questioning Sita’s presence and others suggesting the scene may depict a coronation instead.

The release-date shuffle

OM was initially set for October 16, a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. Dhanush announced the postponement last month, citing the release of Rajinikanth’s film and his respect for the superstar. The new November 20 date gives the film breathing room and sets up a crowded finish to the year.

For fans, the takeaway is simple: this first look is a mood-setter, not a plot dump. Treat it as the character pitch. The full-fledged trailer and songs will clarify how much of OM is emotional drama, chase, or courtroom tension.
