AICWA Urges PM Modi to Bolster Bollywood Security
AICWA has written to PM Narendra Modi after Amitabh Bachchan appeared behind protective glass and a string of attacks rattled Bollywood.

Bollywood’s biggest insecurity is no longer a script. The All Indian Cine Workers Association has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate protection for actors, filmmakers and their families after a series of shootings, attacks and reported extortion threats.
A Sunday ritual changes at Jalsa
For more than four decades, Amitabh Bachchan has stepped out on Sundays to greet fans outside his Mumbai home, Jalsa. On November 1, the 84-year-old appeared behind protective glass, with son Abhishek Bachchan standing beside him. The AICWA letter dated November 3 says that image left the film industry shaken, because fans travel from across India and abroad for that weekly glimpse.
In the letter shared on X, the association wrote that no one had seen a superstar step out behind bulletproof glass just to meet fans.
What AICWA is asking for
AICWA president Suresh Shyam Lal Gupta has asked the Prime Minister to take up the matter personally. The association wants immediate security for film personalities and their families, and a central probe into alleged gang networks, including handlers, financiers and possible links across states and borders. It has suggested agencies such as the National Investigation Agency look into the pattern.
In its letter, AICWA listed several incidents it says point to a wider threat:
- The murder of politician Baba Siddique in Bandra.
- Firing outside Salman Khan’s residence and a knife attack on Saif Ali Khan at his home.
- Firing outside Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence.
- Repeated firing incidents at Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada.
- A shooting involving Tiger Shroff in Juhu, where two people were hit in a crowded area.
Why the industry reads this as extortion
AICWA believes these are not random. It says Bollywood’s visibility makes its stars attractive targets for gangs seeking money and attention. The letter points out that Tiger Shroff has no known controversy or enmity, and argues he was targeted in broad daylight to spread terror. It also refers to reports of an alleged Rs 5 crore extortion demand involving Tusshar Kapoor.
He was targeted in broad daylight for one reason: to spread terror.
The association argues that if a celebrity is unsafe in the heart of Mumbai, ordinary residents cannot feel safe either. It says the underworld terror that was thought to have been controlled has returned in 2026.
The security shift already underway
Some stars have reportedly moved early. Salman Khan has installed bulletproof glass at his residence, and Akshay Kumar and other film personalities have made similar arrangements, according to the letter. Bulletproof cars are also becoming part of security precautions. AICWA says homes and vehicles turning into fortresses shows how deep the fear has gone.
For now, the demand is for visible protection, not words. The next step could be whether central agencies take up the probe the film body has requested.
