Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4: Aakash Kaushik has one twist idea

Aakash A Kaushik, writer of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3, says the team is discussing a fourth film and one twist-driven idea has him excited.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4: one twist idea has the writer excited

Aakash A Kaushik is already a familiar name to Hindi movie fans, but with Udta Teer he moved from writing hits to directing them. Now, in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the writer-director has offered the clearest sign yet that the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is heading toward a fourth chapter.

The team is already thinking about part four

Aakash wrote Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (2024), the two Kartik Aaryan-led films that turned the Akshay Kumar-fronted 2007 original into an ongoing series. Asked about the next instalment, he did not announce a film, but he made the intent clear.

“We are always discussing taking the franchise forward,” Aakash said. “There’s one idea that I am very excited about, and hopefully, we’ll soon start work on that.”

Why the twist is everything

Aakash pointed to the closing reveal as the real engine of the franchise. “The big USP of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa films is their twist,” he said. Horror and comedy matter, he added, but audiences remember the final turn most.

That is a useful lens for fans waiting for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4. The original’s 2007 twists have kept it in the conversation for nearly two decades, and the newer films have each had to land an ending that justifies the ride.

  • Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022): relaunched the property with Kartik Aaryan.
  • Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (2024): continued the new run.
  • Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4: still at the idea stage, with no production timeline given.

A writer with bigger plans

Aakash has written FALTU (2011) and Housefull 4 (2019) before anchoring the franchise, and he also wrote Bhooth Bangla (2026). He told Bollywood Hungama that he had limited on-set interaction with Bhooth Bangla director Priyadarshan because he was busy making Udta Teer, but he enjoyed the process.

His bond with Bhool Bhulaiyaa director Anees Bazmee runs deep. Aakash said Bazmee watched Udta Teer before it was ready, loved it, and after the premiere hugged him and said, “I am very proud of you.”

As for what he will make next, Aakash said he has been searching for an out-of-the-box one-line story and believes he has found it. He has already started work on the script and hopes to approach actors once it is ready.

For now, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 update is less a launch and more a strong signal that the franchise’s key writer is still invested in the saga. The twist, whenever it comes, will be the test.
