Ayushmann and Rajkummar’s Diwali Dance Revives Bareilly Ki Barfi

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Diwali party this year came with a side of filmi nostalgia. As soon as the title track of his upcoming film Yeh Prem Mol Liya started playing, Rajkummar Rao joined him on the floor, and fans promptly read the moment as a Bareilly Ki Barfi reunion they had been waiting for.

The party, hosted by Ayushmann and wife Tahira Kashyap at their Mumbai home, pulled in a familiar film crowd. A video shared by Ayushmann on Instagram shows him and Rajkummar dancing side by side to the new song, with casting director Mukesh Chhabra and actors Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana cheering before they too joined in. At one point, the two leads are holding hands and grinning, which is exactly the kind of warm, unguarded frame fans love.

Ayushmann’s caption kept the mood simple: “Prem waali Diwaali sab ke saath” — or, in English, “It is the Diwali of love with everyone.”

Beyond the dance floor, the guest list underlined how much Mumbai has become home for the couple: Bhushan Kumar, Guneet Monga, Apoorva Mehta, Amar Kaushik, Sara Ali Khan, Akash Kaushik and Arjun Kapoor were among those celebrating.

Why fans went straight back to Bareilly Ki Barfi

The nostalgia is easy to trace. In the 2017 romantic comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi, Ayushmann played Chirag Dubey and Rajkummar played Pritam Vidrohi, the role whose shift from soft-spoken to rowdy became one of the film’s talking points. Kriti Sanon starred as Bitti Mishra, and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari directed. The film did well at the box office, and the pairing stayed in memory.

So when the two actors danced together again, the clip did more than show a party. It gave fans a small, wordless sequel to a film they still keep close.

The track that sparked it all is from Yeh Prem Mol Liya, Sooraj R Barjatya’s upcoming film with Ayushmann and Sharvari. The title song, sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Nihal Tauro, was recently released and leans into a Rajshri-style celebration of weddings and family.
