Suryaa keeps Nov 20 release as Delhi HC rejects PIL
Sunny Deol's Suryaa holds its November 20 release date after the Delhi HC declines a fresh PIL seeking a stay, but CBFC certification remains pending.

Sunny Deol’s Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak is holding its November 20 release date after the Delhi High Court declined to entertain a fresh public interest litigation seeking a stay. The division bench pointed to a similar petition already before a single judge and refused to open what it called parallel proceedings.
What the court said
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma observed, “We see no reason to entertain the present PIL.” The court noted that a related matter is scheduled to be heard on November 16. It allowed the petitioners to join that pending case and to continue pursuing their representation before the concerned authorities.
The petitioners’ counsel had argued that a PIL offered a wider scope than an individual writ petition and raised concerns about the teaser’s language. The bench declined, preferring the existing single-judge matter and avoiding duplicate litigation.
Why two doctors went to court
Petitioners Dr Nachiketa Bhatia and Dr Dhruv Chauhan objected to the film’s trailer, alleging that it glorifies violence against medical professionals and paints the healthcare sector as broadly corrupt. They argued that this depiction could fuel hostility toward doctors and potentially create law-and-order concerns.
The plea invoked Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and sought directions for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification to review the film and modify or remove objectionable scenes and dialogues. The petitioners have already submitted a representation to authorities and told the court they wanted it considered.
The release picture comes down to CBFC
The CBFC’s counsel told the High Court that the film has not yet been certified and that certification is pending. That makes the censor process the next real gatekeeper for the November 20 date.
- The fresh PIL seeking a stay was not entertained.
- A similar petition remains pending before a single judge, next listed for November 16.
- The petitioners may join the pending matter and pursue their representation.
- CBFC certification for the film is still pending.
What this means for filmi fans
For now, Suryaa clears one legal hurdle before release. But a pending court matter and the censor board decision mean the date carries some uncertainty. Until the CBFC completes its review, fans should treat November 20 as the plan rather than a final guarantee.
