Gulshan Devaiah Sets Record Straight: 2011 Was His Debut
Gulshan Devaiah clears up the Wikipedia credit that placed him in a 2004 Salman Khan film, and shares the actual timeline of his debut.

Gulshan Devaiah wants film fans to know one thing: he was not the DJ in a Salman Khan movie from 2004.
A Wikipedia entry has claimed that Devaiah appeared in Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa, the 2004 romantic drama starring Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Bhumika Chawla. The page even says he played a DJ. Ahead of his next film Little Thomas opening on Friday, October 23, the actor set the record straight in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.
The DJ in ‘Go Balle Balle’
Bollywood Hungama went back to the film and spotted a DJ in the background of the song “Go Balle Balle.” A few shots linger on him, but according to the publication, he did not appear to be Gulshan Devaiah. When asked directly, Devaiah replied, “That’s not true.”
The timeline, in his own words
- 2002: He shot an English film called Brides Wanted in Bengaluru; it was never released.
- 2010: That Girl in Yellow Boots had its festival screening.
- 2011: The year Devaiah counts as his official debut.
- Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa (2004): The DJ credit on Wikipedia, which he says is false.
Why a wrong credit matters
This is a small but useful reminder that fan-edited databases can carry an error for years. A debut credit shapes the story audiences tell about an actor’s career, and Devaiah’s real path began with independent work and a festival run rather than a Salman Khan set.
He takes it well. “Even I have seen the Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa mention on my Wikipedia page, and I laugh at it!” he said. His joke about the future is just as filmi: if Amitabh Bachchan ever asks about his debut on Kaun Banega Crorepati, both That Girl in Yellow Boots and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa could be among the options.
His release-day rule
With Little Thomas arriving on Friday, Devaiah also shared how he handles the noise around a release. He usually does not check social media, he says. His reasoning is self-preservation: a hundred people may praise a performance, but one negative comment is what stays with an actor. Sometimes, depending on his mood, he does actively track the business of a film.
