Jailer 2 hits Rs 356.68 crore by Day 7 amid body-double talk

Fan speculation about a body double in Jailer 2 has met a crisp answer: Mohanlal was very much in the frame. As the Rajinikanth-starrer wrapped its first week in theatres, action director Chethan Ramshi D’Souza and stand-in Jobi Kodakara both addressed the rumours, explaining exactly where a double was — and was not — used.

The question that started it

The chatter grew after an Instagram user asked Chethan about a specific climax sequence featuring Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff. Under a joint post with cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan, the action director was asked whether a body double had appeared in a car scene. His reply was short and direct:

“It’s him (sic).”

What the stand-in actually shot

Jobi Kodakara, Mohanlal’s stand-in, told the Jango Space YouTube channel that his work was limited to a few practical inserts. The reason was production logistics, not any attempt to replace the actor in dramatic moments.

• Only one or two shots featuring him were used in the final cut.
• The visible parts were his hands and legs in the airport scene during the climax.
• His face does not appear anywhere in the theatrical version.

Stand-ins are common on large productions; schedules, long hours and technical shots often make them necessary. What created the flare-up was the fear that a face replacement — whether a traditional double or an AI-assisted one — had slipped into a key scene. Jobi’s explanation draws a clear line: the inserts were utility shots, not a performance swap.

Why the clarification matters

For fans, the question is about the authenticity of a moment they have been waiting for. Mohanlal is among the most experienced actors in Indian cinema, and the climax brings him together with Rajinikanth, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff. A body double would have changed the meaning of that scene. The team’s response matters because it puts the record straight without leaving room for fan theories.

Jailer 2 at the box office

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 released on October 15, 2026. By Day 7, it was running across 9,634 shows, with a reported collection of Rs 356.68 crore and a total India nett of Rs 304.50 crore so far. The film follows Rajinikanth as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who seeks allies to protect his family from an idol-smuggling network.

The ensemble includes SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan and Vidya Balan, with special appearances by Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi and an extended cameo from Hrithik Roshan.
