R Madhavan boards Vishal Furia’s next horror film

R Madhavan is returning to the genre that made him a cult favourite. Director Vishal Furia has cast the 13B star in his next untitled horror film, and cameras are expected to roll in early 2027.

The project was first reported by Variety India and confirms Furia’s continued focus on horror after Chhorii and Maa. It is produced by Rohit Ranjan under his banner, Frostlit Production Limited.

Furia’s first and only choice

For Furia, there was never a shortlist. He said Madhavan was always his first and only choice and called him the true OG horror star of the cult classic 13B.

“His conviction, experience and understanding of serious horror are very rare, and I couldn’t think of anyone better for this film,” Furia said.

Furia is clear about the ambition. He wants “the kind of fear they will feel in their bones” — a promise that signals psychological dread rather than cheap jump scares.

What ‘bone-deep’ fear could mean

Furia’s phrasing suggests the film will chase atmosphere and lingering dread. That approach has worked for audiences looking for more than gore, and it fits Madhavan’s ability to play unease without overacting.

Madhavan has been here before. 13B made him a word-of-mouth horror favourite, and Shaitaan showed a darker side as the menacing Vanraj. He later made a surprise appearance in Furia’s Maa, fronted by Kajol, reprising that same role.

He was last seen in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which released in theatres on March 19, 2026.
