Rakul Preet’s Rs 1.99 Lakh Saree Turns Ramayana Promo Dopamine

Rakul Preet Singh turns a Diwali promo into a dopamine-dressing moment in a Rs 1.99 lakh Debyani Malhotra x Swadeshi saree for Ramayana.

Rakul's Rs 1.99 lakh dopamine saree for Diwali

Festive styling is getting louder, and Rakul Preet Singh just put that shift on the promotional map.

At a recent event for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, the actor stepped out in a colour-blocked saree that lets fuchsia, purple and mustard share one silhouette. The statement piece comes from the Debyani Malhotra x Swadeshi collaboration and carries a price tag of Rs 1.99 lakh, according to details shared exclusively with ETimes.

Dopamine dressing—the idea of using bright, mood-lifting colours on purpose—has been gathering momentum in global fashion. On a traditional sari, it makes the argument that festive wear can feel joyful and heritage-driven at once, rather than choosing between the two.

A look timed to a Diwali opening

The appearance is not random. Ramayana: Part 1, officially titled Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, arrives in theatres on November 5, a date locked into the Diwali window. That context turns a promotional photo call into a festive-fashion reference point for the film’s global push.

Rakul plays Surpanakha in the multi-part cinematic adaptation, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash. With the release less than ten days away, every public appearance is doing double duty: building anticipation and setting a visual mood.

Breaking down the maximalist saree

The outfit works because each element has a job. The drape supplies the energy; the details keep it rooted in Indian craft; the styling stays restrained enough to let the saree lead.

  • Colour story: fuchsia, purple and mustard arranged as a bold colour block.
  • Craft elements: bandhani-inspired detailing, paisley motifs, geometric patterns and heritage-style borders.
  • Blouse: a short-sleeved, intricately worked piece that complements rather than competes.
  • Accessories: antique gold jhumkas with ear chains, multicoloured kadas and gold embellished juttis.

The Rs 1.99 lakh price point establishes it as a designer statement, but the underlying formula can be borrowed at almost any budget. The real luxury is in the composition—saturated colour, traditional texture and a disciplined finish.

Soft glam is the quiet styling trick

Styled by Ami Patel, the look pairs the loud drape with deliberately calm beauty: defined eyes, nude-brown lips, softly blushed cheeks and soft waves with a centre parting. That contrast is what keeps maximalism from tipping into costume.

For festive dressing, the transferable idea is simple. Choose one statement piece, ground it with traditional jewellery, and let hair and makeup stay warm and minimal. Dopamine dressing, in this version, is not about adding more colour—it is about giving one colour-filled piece enough room to breathe.

With the film opening on November 5, expect the rest of the Ramayana cast to follow with their own interpretation of festive glamour.
