Ramayana Director Clears the Air on AI Dubbing Row
Ahead of the Los Angeles world premiere, Nitesh Tiwari clarified that Brahma AI handled only lip-syncing, while real artists dubbed Ramayana.

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend began its world premiere at the Academy Museum’s David Geffen Theatre in Los Angeles this morning. Before the first reviews arrive, director Nitesh Tiwari stepped forward to clear up one of the film’s most debated technical choices.
His message was simple: AI did not voice the characters.
What Tiwari actually said
According to Tiwari, Brahma AI was used only for lip-syncing. The dubbing itself was performed by real artists. The goal was to make the characters feel more natural for audiences watching in different languages, not to replace the performances.
That is a meaningful distinction. Lip-sync technology matches a dubbed line to an actor’s on-screen mouth movements. Voice replacement, by contrast, would remove the artist from the final performance. Tiwari’s clarification places Ramayana in the first category.
Why this matters for the film
The scale of Ramayana: Rise of a Legend makes every technical decision headline-worthy. Ranbir Kapoor leads as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, and Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman. Kajal, Rakul and Vivek Oberoi join in supporting roles. Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman have composed the music, while Namit Malhotra and Yash produce.
For fans, the AI question was never only about technology. It was about whether an epic built on human emotion had quietly handed that emotion to a machine. The answer, as it turns out, is no.
What we know about the rollout
- The world premiere is being screened in English in Los Angeles.
- The review embargo lifts on Friday, so reactions should follow soon after.
- The film opens worldwide on November 5, 2026, in multiple languages and formats.
A template for the AI conversation
The clarification offers a useful model for how big Indian productions can speak about AI. Name the tool, spell out the narrow job it performed, and put the human artist back at the centre. That stops a technical assist from becoming a rumour about replacement.
For now, the attention shifts back to the screen. Once the embargo lifts, the real test will be whether this Ramayana connects with viewers worldwide, not just with the debate around it.
