Ramayana’s global trailer frames Ram as a man, not a god
Sony launches the international Ramayana campaign with a second trailer that frames Ram as a man, ahead of the film's Nov 5 worldwide release.

Sony Pictures is taking Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana to the world this week, and the international version is making one thematic change explicit: Ram is being introduced as a man, not a god.
The second international trailer is set to drop on Thursday, October 15, weeks before the film’s worldwide release on November 5. It is the official start of Sony’s global campaign after the studio acquired worldwide distribution rights earlier this year.
Inside the new international cut
A longer television spot released Wednesday offers the clearest look yet at the scale of the film. Kunal Kapoor appears as Indra, the king of gods, riding the celestial elephant Airavata. Yash’s Ravana confronts him in battle, strikes Airavata down and declares, “Before me, every head will bow.”
But the real hook is the narration. The spot says humanity’s hope was “Not a God, but a man — Rama.” Ranbir Kapoor, as Ram, follows with a line that underlines the stakes: “If I don’t stop him, the world will fall. This is just the beginning.”
Sony has titled the international version Ramayana: The Rise of a Legend. In the promo shared on X, Ram is seen taking on a giant beast in a forest, a choice that signals a more action-first, character-led entry point for viewers who do not know the epic.
Why the “man, not god” framing matters
For Indian audiences, the divine status of Ram needs no introduction. For first-time global viewers, though, a hero who is all-powerful can feel distant. By rooting the pitch in Ram’s human responsibility and choice, the campaign is giving unfamiliar audiences a reason to invest emotionally before they learn the mythology.
That is the same logic behind the international title. “Rise of a Legend” tells a newcomer exactly what kind of story this is: a hero’s journey, not a lecture in theology.
What the campaign has lined up
The first trailer, which launched in July in New Delhi, introduced Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Now the focus shifts to Bengaluru, Yash’s home turf, where the team is planning a grand trailer event. Producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and the principal cast are expected to attend.
Malhotra wrote on X that the dream was always to take one of India’s greatest stories to the world. A Mid-Day report also says the makers are seeking permission for a special screening for political leaders at Rashtrapati Bhavan around the November 5 release.
For fans, the next step is simple
- Turn on notifications for Sony Pictures and the film’s official handles; no exact trailer time has been announced yet.
- Re-watch the July trailer to spot how the characters and scale have evolved in the international push.
- Keep November 5 circled and follow the Bengaluru event for the home-ground energy.
The campaign is no longer just selling a film; it is testing whether an Indian epic can be translated into a global blockbuster language without losing its soul. The next 72 hours will show how strongly audiences respond.
