Ramayana overseas pre-sales hit $3.86M before Nov 5

A PR box built like a film world

Days before ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’ opens in theatres on Thursday, the makers have turned their press outreach into an experience. Reviewers abroad are receiving a gold-packaged hamper that includes R. K. Narayan’s ‘The Ramayana: A Shortened Modern Prose Version of the Indian Epic’, an illustrated image of Rama and Sita, a leather bag and a golden compass. The kits also invite reviewers to become warriors in the world of the film.

That goes well beyond the usual poster-and-trailer mailer. One reviewer shared the unboxing, saying the package made him feel like he was “stepping into the world of the film.” For international writers who may know the epic only by name, the book and the warrior-themed invites offer cultural context they can carry into the screening.

Overseas and India advance bookings

The buzz is turning into ticket sales. Early estimates put overseas advance bookings at about USD 3.86 million, with North America leading at an estimated USD 2.86 million.

  • India advance bookings: Rs 31.86 crore across two show dates.
  • Opening day (Thursday, November 5): Rs 22.55 crore.
  • PVR INOX: more than 2.5 lakh tickets booked in advance.

Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR INOX, said the response had been “very encouraging” and pointed to the six-day festive window as a natural fit for a family epic. In a statement, he noted that the film’s cultural connect could draw audiences across generations.

This kind of experiential press kit is increasingly common for franchise films, but a copy of the epic is a bolder choice. It treats reviewers as participants rather than passive journalists, and it gives the film’s cultural stakes a physical form. In a crowded release season, that extra care can shape first reviews and word of mouth.

Why the opening week matters

‘Ramayana’ is positioned as one of the biggest cinematic epics of 2026, with an IMAX push and a global premiere already behind it. A strong advance tells exhibitors to add shows, and it tells audiences to book early—especially if they want premium formats. The film will face competition from Japan’s ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’, which opens internationally on November 6, so the first two days will be crucial.

For fans, the practical takeaway is simple: opening day IMAX seats are likely to vanish first, and the six-day festive window will only add to demand. The goody box may be the showpiece, but the advance bookings are the real signal.
