Ramayana Part 2 Underway; Shiamak Davar Choreographs Jai Jai Ram

Ramayana Part 2 has already been partly filmed, and Shiamak Davar is choreographing the devotional track Jai Jai Ram for Nitesh Tiwari's Diwali release.

Ramayana Part 2: Already Filming, Jai Jai Ram Dance Treatment

Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part Ramayana is moving faster than its release calendar suggests. A new production update confirms that a large part of Ramayana Part 2 has already been filmed, even as the first chapter prepares for a Diwali 2026 opening.

Jai Jai Ram gets a temple-scale treatment

The devotional track Jai Jai Ram is being conceived as an Aarti for Shri Ram, and choreographer Shiamak Davar has been brought in to shape its visual presentation. The work reportedly focuses on expansive exterior temple sequences, which suggests the song will function as a large-scale set piece rather than a routine picturisation.

That fits the film’s wider music philosophy. The team has said most songs will be woven into the background score. “Most of what you are going to be hearing in the form of songs are all part of the BGM,” the production explained to Variety, adding that audiences no longer expect a film to stop for a four-minute song.

For a mythological epic, that choice matters. A conventional Bollywood narrative might pause for romance or celebration, but the Ramayana’s devotional register leans on mood and scale. If the songs sit inside the BGM, the film can carry its emotional beats without breaking the journey, and it gives tracks like Jai Jai Ram a reason to exist as spectacle.

For Hindi film fans, the approach is a quiet statement about how epics are being built now: less about lyrical interludes and more about immersive world-building. It also means the soundtrack’s devotional pieces may hit differently in a theatre, supported by choreography and BGM rather than a traditional song-and-dance break.

Part 2 is already rolling, but in phases

Production on the second instalment is further ahead than many fans would expect. Significant portions are reportedly complete before Ramayana: Part 1 reaches theatres. The rest will be filmed after the first film’s release, a phased plan that gives the cast and crew room to manage schedules and the promotional cycle.

Sunny Deol’s Hanuman is one of the reasons for that longer runway. His role requires an extensive shoot that will continue beyond the first chapter’s opening, with his remaining work set for the later phase of Ramayana Part 2.

What we know so far

  • Release: Ramayana: Part 1, also titled Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, opens worldwide around November 5-6, 2026.
  • Music: Songs are being integrated into the background score, with Jai Jai Ram choreographed by Shiamak Davar.
  • Part 2: A large portion is already filmed; remaining scenes come after Part 1’s release.
  • Casting: Amitabh Bachchan was never planned to voice Jatayu, despite the speculation.

The cast and the reveals

Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, along with Parashurama and Vishnu, while Yash is Ravana and Sai Pallavi plays Sita. Ravi Dubey, credited as Ravie Dubey, appears as Lakshmana. Nitesh Tiwari directs and co-wrote the script with Shridhar Raghavan.

For fans, the update also carries a promise: the makers are keeping several casting details and cameos under wraps. “I think there are many surprises in store; we would like to hold a few close to our chests,” they said, adding that viewers will see them “as and when the reveal happens.”

The Diwali release positions the film as a family event. With Part 2 already partly in the can, the team is essentially making two films on one creative spine, an increasingly common bet for large-scale Indian franchises. That reduces the wait between chapters and lets the cast inhabit their roles across a longer arc; it also raises the stakes if Part 1 works.
