Salman Khan recalls eerie presence in Galaxy Apartments room

On Koffee With Karan Season 9, Salman Khan looked back at his family's modest Galaxy Apartments flat and the presence he says he felt there.

Salman Khan's Old Room Had a Presence He Never Saw

A tiny room, an unexplained feeling

On the first episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9, Salman Khan took viewers back to his family’s Galaxy Apartments home in Mumbai. Karan Johar remembered visiting the Khan residence to narrate the script of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and being surprised that Salman lived in such a compact room. It had little more than a bed, a cupboard and a closet.

Salman said that room was not somewhere he liked to be alone. He never claimed to see anything, but he described sensing another presence whenever he was there.

“There was a presence felt there by me.”

— Salman Khan on Koffee With Karan Season 9

Lights, cupboards and music with a mind of their own

Salman recalled lights switching on and off as he left the room, cupboards opening without explanation, and music starting on its own. In the bathroom, he said he could feel somebody outside fidgeting with the cupboard and opening it. Even during billiards games outside, the family heard sounds coming from inside.

When Karan asked if he thought the room was haunted, Salman avoided the word. He preferred to call it a presence, and he said the experience never frightened him.

  • Lights would go on and off.
  • Cupboards opened on their own.
  • Music began playing without anyone touching it.

The lighter side of a ghost story

Salman also added a touch of humour. Whenever he played music, he said he could feel the presence right behind him, so he would ask what it wanted to hear and then leave the room. His only request? If the presence was a really beautiful woman, she should show herself. Karan laughed, and the spooky memory became one of the episode’s more playful moments.

Why the old flat still fascinates fans

The anecdote lands because it is a time capsule. The Khans moved into Galaxy Apartments in the 1970s, and Salman occupied a modest residence there in the 1990s even as his stardom grew. Reports suggest the family may move to a six-storey building in Chimbai Village, Bandra, giving the old apartment stories added nostalgia.

On the work front, Salman is expected to star in Maatrubhumi, a patriotic war drama based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, co-starring Chitrangda Singh and expected in late 2026 subject to clearances. He is also attached to Monster, tentatively titled SVC63, planned for Eid 2027.
