Shah Rukh Khan Waived Rs 95 Lakh Fee for Bokadia Film

KC Bokadia says Shah Rukh Khan waived a pending Rs 95 lakh fee for Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, choosing their bond over the balance.

SRK's Rs 95 lakh kindness, remembered by KC Bokadia

Every now and then, a behind-the-scenes story does what no trailer can: it shows the person behind the star. Filmmaker KC Bokadia has recalled a moment from the making of Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam that casts Shah Rukh Khan’s fee negotiation — if one can even call it that — as an act of trust.

The math that made the moment

Bokadia told ANI that he had signed Shah Rukh Khan for Rs 2 crore. Of that, Rs 1.05 crore had already been paid. The outstanding amount was Rs 95 lakh, a substantial number, especially at that point in Hindi cinema.

  • Agreed fee: Rs 2 crore
  • Already paid: Rs 1.05 crore
  • Pending balance: Rs 95 lakh
  • SRK’s reported response: “What money, sir? Leave it.”

A quiet conversation first

The first move wasn’t made by Bokadia, but by Shah Rukh Khan himself. According to the filmmaker, SRK told his son, “Mr Bokadia is a very good man. I will not take any money from him.” When the son said there was no such problem and that the family stood by its word, SRK reportedly explained he was speaking from his own mind.

In Bokadia’s retelling, the actor said he knew the producer would sell something to pay the balance, and added that he could make the money by attending a wedding for five minutes. There is no drama in the line, just a very clear set of priorities.

Years later, the same answer

The subject surfaced again three or four years later at Empire Studio, where Bokadia was mixing a film. Shah Rukh Khan arrived, greeted him and, when Bokadia raised the money, answered simply, “What money, sir? Leave it.”

It is the kind of line that travels because it is short enough to remember and generous enough to feel rare.

Why this matters for the filmi fan

Bollywood is built on relationships as much as contracts, and this anecdote is a reminder that old-school goodwill can quietly outlast a payment schedule. It also gives Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam — directed by KS Adhiyaman, with Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan — a new layer of backstory for audiences who love the film’s star power.

The account is Bokadia’s version of events, and the sum involved was large enough that many would have handled it very differently. That is precisely why the story has resonated: it frames a financial matter as a friendship first.
