Prabhas’ Fauzi teaser: Netaji family demands withdrawal

Prabhas' period drama Fauzi is under fire after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grandnephew said its teaser distorts history and should be withdrawn.

Why Netaji's family wants the Fauzi teaser pulled

Prabhas’ upcoming period action drama Fauzi has stepped into a historical storm just days after its teaser arrived on the actor’s 47th birthday. The two-minute-31-second promo opens with a dramatised 1942 meeting between Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Adolf Hitler, then cuts to Prabhas as a fictional rebel soldier in Kolkata who has been on the British establishment’s radar since 1932.

What is being questioned is not the meeting itself — that encounter is part of the documented record. The objection is to how the teaser frames it: Bose is shown speaking about his Bhagavad Gita-inspired code and his ability to infuriate the British, before the film uses the moment to introduce a character billed as “India’s biggest rebel soldier.”

Family’s objection

Chandra Kumar Bose, Netaji’s grandnephew, has asked the team to pull the teaser down and issue a corrected version. On X, he wrote, “Mixing fiction with history is a crime.” Speaking to IANS, he repeated that filmmakers should be free to tell freedom-struggle stories, but that presenting national icons accurately matters. Distorting facts while dealing with freedom fighters and national personalities, he said, is exactly the line that should not be crossed.

The demand arrived in public, with the family tagging the film’s team on X, so the makers cannot treat it as a passing comment. That public framing has turned a promo debate into a visibility problem for the film.

His complaint is not with the period-action genre. It is with a promotional cut that uses a real icon’s words and ideology as a bridge to a fictional protagonist, without making the invented part clear.

Why it matters for fans

Teasers are loud and short; they do not carry historical footnotes. When a documented figure shares the screen with an invented hero, the audience can easily read the dramatised dialogue as biography. That is the risk Chandra Bose is asking the makers to close before more viewers form that impression.

Period films frequently mix fact and fiction, and audiences are usually happy to accept creative liberty — if it is signalled. A title card, a director’s note or a clearer split between the real Bose and the fictional soldier would all protect the film’s intent while keeping the drama intact.

What comes next

The teaser closes with a fiery Prabhas line that promises to draw British blood and seize freedom, but the conversation has moved from that punch to a principle. Director Hanu Raghavapudi, and producers Mythri Movie Makers and T-Series Films, have not yet responded to the objection.

Fauzi also stars Imanvi Esmail, Subodh Bhave, Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher, and is set for a theatrical release on March 19, 2027. That gives the team time to re-cut or clarify, but every quiet day keeps the controversy in the spotlight.

  • The demand: withdraw the teaser and issue a corrected version.
  • The concern: a documented meeting is being dramatised to launch a fictional hero.
  • The question: will the sequence be re-cut or clarified before release?

For now, Fauzi has the attention it wanted — but it is arriving as a debate about historical responsibility, not only as a Prabhas action epic.
