Jailer 2 Actor Nancy Divya on Body-Shaming Row and Cut Scenes
Nancy Divya Vikram says her Jailer 2 character Sheela was a lively food lover, not a punchline, and that several Rajinikanth scenes were cut from the final edit.

Nancy Divya Vikram, the actor behind Sheela in Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, has addressed the criticism that some of her scenes made fun of body size. Nancy, who speaks regularly against body-shaming through her page Snazyy Tamilachi, offered a different reading: the role was written as a character, not a comment on anyone’s appearance.
A lively food lover, not a punchline
In an interview with Cinema Vikatan, Nancy explained that Sheela was conceived as a fun-loving woman who enjoys food. “I see it as a character,” she said, pushing back on the body-shaming interpretation. She added that the scene would have remained the same even if a slimmer actor had played the part, and her first scene with Rajinikanth contained no direct reference to her weight.
The scenes that were removed
Her bigger disclosure concerned the edit. Nancy said several scenes with Rajinikanth were cut from the final version. In those original sequences, she teased the superstar about being old, threatened to cut his salary for arriving late to the shop, and the two traded barbs. “If all the scenes had been shown together, people might not have felt that it was body-shaming,” she said.
Why context changes the joke
This is where the row matters for filmi audiences. A shortened comic track can flatten a character into a single trait, and a one-sided edit can make banter look like a jab. Nancy’s argument is that characters like Sheela need their full arc to land; without it, the audience only sees fragments.
- Context decides whether a scene reads as comedy or cruelty.
- A cut-down role can shrink a lively character into a body-size gag.
- Viewers help set the standard by what they reward with laughter.
What she wants audiences to question
Nancy extended the point beyond Jailer 2. She said fat people can wear whatever clothes they want, and body size is not only about food. “First, we have to change ourselves,” she said, asking viewers to understand what to appreciate, what not to appreciate, and what to accept as comedy.
Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, continues the story of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster stars Rajinikanth, alongside Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryaj, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Yogi Babu, Namo Narayana, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.
