Jailer 2 Opens at Rs 45.40 Crore, Fans Go Global
Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 opened on October 15 with Rs 45.40 crore net by afternoon and fan celebrations in India, Japan and Dubai.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 did not just open on October 15 — it turned release day into a global fan festival. From India to Japan and Dubai, screenings became celebrations, and the first box-office numbers arrived before the evening shows could even begin.
A worldwide first for Thalaivar
The sequel is the first Rajinikanth film to open simultaneously in India and Japan. That milestone was met with customised merchandise in Japan, a video of large crowds at a London theatre, and a Dubai screening at Deira City Centre that was reportedly packed by 3 am.
Fans in India marked the day with drums, fireworks, cakes and cutouts covered in garlands. Many also offered prayers, broke coconuts and poured milk over posters of the actor — a familiar ritual for a superstar whose releases often feel closer to a festival than a film premiere.
What’s behind the celebration
The early energy is not just about the film. It is a reminder of Rajinikanth’s fan capital: the most dedicated viewers become the campaign, generating videos and crowd shots that travel further than any trailer. The simultaneous Japan opening also shows how southern-star vehicles are increasingly treating overseas markets as first-day markets, not afterthoughts.
Who is back on screen
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 continues the story of retired prison warden Muthuvel Pandian, known as Tiger. When a cross-border criminal syndicate threatens his family, he returns to operate from the shadows. The cast includes:
- Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and S. J. Suryah
- Vijay Sethupathi, Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff
- Cameos by Mohanlal, Hrithik Roshan and Shiva Rajkumar
The opening-day number so far
According to live box-office figures reported by Sacnilk, Jailer 2 had collected Rs 45.40 crore net in India by Thursday afternoon. That puts it close to the Rs 50 crore mark before evening and night shows, which are expected to add substantially to the day-one total.
For fans, the real question is simple: can the full day push past Rs 50 crore? The early signs suggest this is less a box-office race and more a global celebration of Rajinikanth’s pull.
