Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer: 5 languages for Diwali release

Nayanthara is back as Mookuthi Amman in a five-language Diwali sequel. The trailer shows her as a cop and goddess battling supernatural villains.

Nayanthara doubles up in a 5-language Diwali sequel

The much-watched sequel to the 2020 streaming hit Mookuthi Amman has its first full trailer, and the scale has clearly changed. Nayanthara returns as the divine Mookuthi Amman, but this time the film is built as a five-language theatrical event, with Sundar C taking over the director’s chair from RJ Balaji.

A double role with something to protect

The trailer gives Nayanthara two very different modes. As a police officer, her character is ordinary and easily shaken by daily life. That vulnerability is exactly what pulls her into a bigger fight when children and innocent people come under supernatural attack.

At that point, Mookuthi Amman emerges. The goddess avatar steps forward as the protector, setting up the film’s central clash between divine intervention and the forces threatening humanity.

Bigger villains, more spectacle

Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay are introduced as formidable mythical antagonists who arrive on Earth with destructive intent. The footage mixes action, supernatural confrontations, humour and devotional notes, suggesting a sequel that wants to be both a family entertainer and a fantasy spectacle.

Here is what the trailer confirms:

  • Nayanthara appears as both a police officer and the goddess Mookuthi Amman.
  • Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay play the otherworldly threat.
  • Sundar C directs the sequel, taking over from RJ Balaji’s 2020 original.
  • The film opens on November 6 in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

From OTT hit to Diwali event

The first Mookuthi Amman arrived directly on streaming in 2020 and was well received, with RJ Balaji directing and playing a prominent role. The sequel moves the franchise to the big screen under Sundar C, a filmmaker known for large-scale commercial entertainers.

The production is led by Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Film International, with Khushbu Sundar and Vignesh Shivan associated with the project. The larger cast includes Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Myna Nandini and Singampuli.

The technical bench and the visual promise

Hiphop Tamizha has composed the music, with Gopi Amarnath as cinematographer and Fenny Oliver as editor. Stunt choreography is with Rajasekar K, and Venkatt Ragavan has written the screenplay and dialogues.

The earlier teaser, Rise of Mahashakti, had already hinted at the visual ambition. The trailer builds on that promise, and the five-language release means the production is targeting far more than a single Tamil audience. For Hindi film fans, it offers another way to see Nayanthara in a mainstream masala avatar on the big screen.

What will decide its Diwali run

Mookuthi Amman 2 is scheduled for November 6, which places it directly in the Diwali frame. The sequel’s real test is whether it can keep the warmth and humour of the original while delivering the larger action and mythology it is now promising. If it does, it could become the festive weekend’s most accessible family option across languages.
