Saif Ali Khan Recalls Kareena Kapoor’s First Bike Ride Reaction

Saif Ali Khan told KBC that Kareena Kapoor Khan said yes to a Ladakh bike ride, then kept asking him to slow down and admitted she hated bikes.

Saif Recalls Kareena's 'I Hate Bike Rides' Moment

Saif Ali Khan has shared a small, sweetly awkward memory from the early days of his relationship with Kareena Kapoor Khan, and it is a reminder that even Bollywood love stories can begin with a less-than-perfect first ride. The anecdote came out on Kaun Banega Crorepati, where Saif appeared with Akshay Kumar and told host Amitabh Bachchan about the time he took Kareena out on a bike in Ladakh.

From polite co-stars to a bumpy bike ride

According to Saif, he and Kareena were not especially close while shooting Tashan. They were, in his words, “just being polite co-stars.” He had hired a bike in Ladakh, where the roads are scenic enough to make a headphone-and-helmet commute appealing. When someone on set suggested he offer Kareena a ride because she loved motorcycles, he asked and she said yes.

That is where the romance took a detour. Saif recalled Kareena digging her nails into him every couple of seconds and urging him to stop and slow down. Eventually she told him, “I hate bike rides.” His reply was simple: “Then why are we on this bike?”

  • Early Tashan days: Saif says they were polite co-stars, not close friends.
  • A set-side nudge: Someone suggested the ride because Kareena liked bikes.
  • The ride itself: She kept asking him to stop and slow down.
  • The punchline: She admitted she hated bike rides; Saif asked why they were on the bike.

Why the moment connected with the audience

The KBC audience laughed, and it is easy to see why. The story works because Saif does not make himself the hero of a grand romantic gesture. Instead, he plays the slightly puzzled co-star who misread the situation, then recovered with a deadpan question. Bachchan, as host, gave the moment room to breathe, while Akshay Kumar, who was part of Tashan and a witness to that chapter, made the memory feel even more like an inside story from the set.

A small story with big fan appeal

For Bollywood fans, these throwback moments do a lot of work. They fill in the backstory of a couple whose public image is now built on banter, confidence and a shared sense of humour. A story about a bike ride gone wrong is charming precisely because it is small; it does not try to sell a film or defend a controversy. It simply shows two people figuring each other out.

Reality and quiz formats have become a natural home for this kind of anecdote. A celebrity can arrive to promote nothing in particular, sit in the hot seat, and leave the internet with a clip that travels far beyond the episode. KBC, which airs on Sony Entertainment Television, continues to be one of the most effective stages for that exchange.

In the end, Saif’s takeaway was generous: they may have liked each other even if Kareena did not like the bike. Fans will probably remember the ride, and the question, long after the episode fades.
