Sanjay Gupta funeral: viral clip’s daughter claim unverified
A viral clip from Sanjay Gupta's funeral claims his daughter made an obscene gesture at photographers, but her face was covered and identity is unverified.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s final farewell was supposed to be a moment for closure. Instead, a short clip from outside his Mumbai funeral has shifted attention to an unverified personal claim.
The video, posted by paparazzi page Buzzzooka Scrolls, carries the caption “Why Did Sanjay Gupta’s Daughter Lose Her Cool With the Paps?” It shows a girl in the passenger seat of a car, her face hidden under a hoodie, laughing and then making a middle-finger gesture at photographers. The driver and a passenger in the back appear to try to stop her, but the gesture continues.
The problem is that the girl’s face is covered. The daughter label is an assertion from the paparazzi page, not an identification confirmed by anyone who knows the family. Some viewers questioned her behaviour; others questioned whether the person was actually Gupta’s daughter.
A final goodbye, away from the controversy
Around the same time, the industry showed up for the man and his family. Abhishek Bachchan, Farah Khan, Rakesh Roshan and Fardeen Khan were among those present before the last journey to the Versova crematorium. Ronit Roy, one of the first to arrive, was visibly struggling with the moment; Rohit Roy and Milap Zaveri also appeared emotional. Sudhanshu Pandey and Ashoke Pandit were among the other film fraternity figures who visited to support the family.
The police version remains clear
Gupta reportedly fell in the bathroom of his Mumbai residence. Versova police have registered an accidental death report and said that, so far, there is no evidence of foul play. That is the known part of the story; the viral clip is still built on a claim.
What fans can take from this
This is a moment to be careful with what we share. A covered face means a caption is not a confirmation, and a funeral is not a film shoot. Gupta, 57, had a career spanning more than three decades, from his 1994 debut Aatish: Feel The Fire to Jung, Kaante, Shootout at Wadala and Kaabil. Kaante, with Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Lucky Ali and Mahesh Manjrekar, became a turning point in that journey.
Before the clip travels further, hold it to three tests:
- Has the person actually been identified by a family member or official source? Not yet.
- Does the clip change the known facts of his passing? No: an accidental death report is on record and no foul play has been found.
- Does sharing it help our readers, or only add noise to a family’s grief?
Gupta was married to Anu Lekhi; the couple divorced and later remarried. That private context matters more than a brief, covered-face video.
