Meethe Mein Kya Hai Review: 3.0/5 Sweet, Heartwarming Entertainer

Radhika Bansal's Netflix Diwali release earns 3.0/5 for relatable family moments and fine performances, but a few conflicts feel forced.

Meethe Mein Kya Hai Review: 3.0/5 Sweet, Heartwarming Entertainer

Radhika Bansal’s debut film Meethe Mein Kya Hai arrives on Netflix with very little noise, but a 3.0/5 review from Bollywood Hungama suggests it could become the kind of low-key Diwali watch that builds its audience through recommendations instead of launch-day buzz.

A grieving architect and a Lucknow Diwali

The film follows Jai Agarwal (Ritwik Bhowmik), an architect who lost his wife Tara two years ago. He has distanced himself from his family and plans to skip the Diwali reunion at his nani’s home in Lucknow. That changes when his sister Sana reveals she has secretly married and needs him there when she introduces her husband Karam to the family.

What follows is a 119-minute family dramedy, where Jai reconnects with his mother, father, mami, mama and cousin, and strikes up an unlikely friendship with thirteen-year-old Meera, his grandmother’s neighbour.

What works: warmth, humour and a discovery

The review praises the film’s relatable story and breezy screenplay, and notes that first-time director Radhika Bansal lands genuine laughs in the early family scenes. Ritwik Bhowmik is seen as perfectly cast — a man quietly grieving while trying to be present for a reunion — while Rohini Hattangady is described as adorable as the grandmother.

The bigger discovery is Shivika Rishi as Meera. Bollywood Hungama calls her the surprise package of the film, and her habit of pretending not to listen to conversations becomes one of the film’s amusing running touches.

Where it stumbles

The review is equally honest about the weaker patches. A subplot about the elders wanting nani to move to Jaipur feels forced, and some scenes — Jai accompanying Meera to a friend’s house, and moments of spilt milk, wine and oil — sit awkwardly within an otherwise realistic story.

On the music front, Amit Trivedi’s songs are described as situational. None of the four tracks is expected to have a long shelf life, though his background score works better. The production design and costumes are called authentic and realistic but glamorous.

Why it matters for Netflix viewers

This is another quiet film release that will have to rely on discovery. With little buzz around its arrival, Meethe Mein Kya Hai needs positive word of mouth to find its audience. The review concludes that its feel-good appeal and universal theme of family relationships give it that potential.

  • Rating: 3.0/5 from Bollywood Hungama
  • Runtime: 119 minutes
  • Best for: fans of warm, Diwali-set family dramedies
  • Keep expectations in check for: the songs and a few forced subplots

If you are in the mood for a gentle family story with a strong cast and festive warmth, this one is worth adding to your weekend queue. Just don’t go in expecting a plot-heavy thriller or chart-topping music.
