Diljit Dosanjh feels unworthy of Hanuman Chalisa for Ramayana
Diljit Dosanjh has spoken about recording the Hanuman Chalisa for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, saying he felt unworthy and asking forgiveness for any pronunciation slips.

Diljit Dosanjh has addressed one of the most delicate assignments of his career. The singer lent his voice to the Hanuman Chalisa for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, and he is talking about it with more humility than celebration.
Speaking to SirfPanjabiyat, Diljit said he never really felt deserving of the opportunity. “I don’t consider myself worthy of it,” he said, adding that getting to sing the prayer was “a very big thing for me.”
A prayer, not just a promotional song
Diljit said he approached the recording with complete sincerity. He asked for forgiveness in case any word was mispronounced. “If I happened to pronounce or say any words incorrectly, I sincerely ask for forgiveness. But whatever effort I made, I did it wholeheartedly,” he said.
That framing matters for fans. The Hanuman Chalisa is a 40-verse devotional hymn to Lord Hanuman; for many households it is a part of daily prayer, not a regular film track. By acknowledging that the words carry weight, Diljit signalled that this was more than another promotional tie-in.
The track and the first Hanuman glimpse
The track arrived on November 5, the same day the film opened in cinemas. It is a multi-voice collaboration:
- Diljit Dosanjh
- Sukhwinder Singh
- Mohit Chauhan
- Shankar Mahadevan
- Kailash Kher
The music video also gives audiences their first proper look at Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. He appears as a towering silhouette from behind, then takes a giant leap while chanting “Jai Shri Ram.” The face is still hidden, but the sequence is designed to set up a bigger role for the character in the second instalment.
Why the devotional choice is the story
Bollywood has long used devotional music, but a complete Hanuman Chalisa with five marquee voices carries a different signal. It asks listeners to receive the film as a cultural retelling rather than just a spectacle. Diljit’s comments reinforce that tone: he is not promoting the song as a banger, but as a blessing.
He also congratulated the entire team and sent best wishes to the makers on the release. The gesture fits a campaign that is leaning into reverence and scale.
The bigger Ramayana universe
Ramayana: Rise of a Legend stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. It is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, with music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
The Hanuman Chalisa video is doing two jobs at once: it underlines the film’s musical scale and builds anticipation for Hanuman’s expanded presence in the sequel. For Diljit, it is also a rare moment of public vulnerability from a star who usually projects confidence.
