Rajinikanth: Tamannaah song is Jailer 2’s only missing element

At a promotional event ahead of the October 15 release of Jailer 2, Rajinikanth named the one element he feels is missing from the sequel — and it is not an action beat or a dramatic scene. It is a song featuring Tamannaah Bhatia.

“The only missing element in Jailer 2 is Tamannaah,” the superstar said at the event.

The request Nelson Dilipkumar turned down

Rajinikanth said he personally took the idea to director Nelson Dilipkumar, asking him to create a song slot for Tamannaah. Nelson, however, was not willing to include the sequence only because the star wanted it.

In Rajinikanth’s telling, Nelson replied, “I can’t keep it just because you like it, sir.” The actor’s answer framed the same principle from a larger perspective: he said he is still in the field because he does what audiences love, not what he personally likes. If he had followed only his own taste, he added, he would have become irrelevant.

Why fans will notice

Tamannaah was part of the first Jailer, and the sequel is following up a genuine blockbuster. A few reasons the song conversation matters:

• The first film released in 2023 and earned more than Rs 650 crore worldwide.
• Tamannaah’s song sequence became one of the film’s memorable highlights.
• Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
• The sequel releases worldwide on October 15, 2026.

Nelson’s sequel continues the story from the first film, with Mithun Chakraborty, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa in the ensemble. The plot follows Tiger Muthuvel Pandian as a criminal network turns against him.

Tamannaah’s own slate keeps growing

The actress is currently enjoying the run of The Vvaan, which reportedly opened at Rs 30 crore over its first weekend. She also has Ragini 3, Maria IPS and an untitled action film with Ajay Devgn lined up.

For now, the exchange is a reminder that even a superstar’s personal wish does not automatically make the final cut. Jailer 2 arrives on October 15 with its ensemble intact and one song the leading man openly missed.
