Mohanlal’s Stylist Says 3 Looks Cut From Jailer 2

Jishad Shamsudeen says three planned looks and a trailer scene were removed from the theatrical cut, and he won't return for a possible Jailer sequel.

Mohanlal's 3 Jailer 2 Looks Cut, Stylist Speaks Out

Jailer 2 was supposed to be a celebration of its multi-star cast, but the conversation after release has taken a different turn. Jishad Shamsudeen, who styled Mohanlal for the film, says the Malayalam superstar’s presence was reduced in ways that surprised even the people who worked on it. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and fills the frame with familiar faces.

A stylist goes public

In an Instagram post after the film released, Shamsudeen said three distinct looks created for Mohanlal were shot but left out of the final cut. He also claimed a moment that appeared in the trailer was trimmed from the theatrical version.

Shamsudeen described the work as something he was confident in, even when Mohanlal appeared only briefly in the promotional material. As he put it,

“three of Mohanlal Sir’s distinct looks were cut entirely, and even that trailer scene was trimmed out.”

For a film that uses cameos as part of its appeal, his comments quickly became part of the audience conversation.

Why the screen-time question stings

Mohanlal’s appearance in the first Jailer in 2023 was one of the film’s talking points, and fans went into the sequel expecting the franchise to build on that energy. The stylist made clear he did not see the trims as necessary.

He wrote that, in his experience, reducing scenes with a superstar like Mohanlal was unnecessary, and that he would not join a possible sequel. The line that caught fans’ attention was about where he stands:

“I stand solely for the fans, lovers of the craft, and Mohanlal Sir.”

What the stylist says was changed:

  • Three distinct Mohanlal looks were shot and then cut entirely
  • A trailer moment was trimmed from the theatrical release
  • He will not return if a sequel is made
  • No one has confirmed that Jailer 3 is actually in development

What this means for the Jailer franchise

Franchises like Jailer run on the promise of reunions and star power. When a major actor’s screen time becomes the story, it can shift how audiences talk about a sequel, especially in the first weekend.

The sequel carries returning names such as Ramya Krishnan, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff, alongside new faces like Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty. So the film was never short on star wattage, which makes the trimming debate even sharper.

Shamsudeen’s statement stops short of confirming a third film. It is a stylist’s perspective, not an official production update, but it gives fans a concrete way to frame a feeling that had been floating around since the trailer.

What to watch next

There has been no official response from the Jailer 2 team, and the numbers that usually dominate a big-ticket release are now sharing space with a debate about whether the film made the most of its casting. If a sequel is announced, expect screen-time assurances to become part of the conversation before release.
