Ryan Reynolds joins Ramayana’s 125-country Diwali rollout

The Deadpool star is expected at the Diwali-themed LA premiere of Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, with a red Indian dress code and a 125-country release.

Ramayana's 125-country Diwali premiere pulls in Ryan Reynolds

Hollywood is being asked to dress for Diwali. Ryan Reynolds is reportedly expected at the Los Angeles premiere of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana: Rise of a Legend on October 27, and the occasion comes with a clear dress code: red traditional Indian attire.

A Diwali-themed Hollywood screening

The special screening, reported by The Free Press Journal and carried by India Today, will be held at the David Geffen Theater inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Around 945 invited guests, a mix of Hollywood personalities and international media representatives, are expected to attend the 3D showing.

The evening is being positioned as a Diwali celebration ahead of the film’s November 5 global release. Guests are requested to wear red traditional Indian clothing, and the same expectation reportedly extends to Reynolds, best known to audiences as Deadpool.

The venue matters. The Academy Museum’s David Geffen Theater is a prestige Los Angeles stage, and a 3D screening for international media suggests the producers want this film discussed far beyond the usual Hindi-film circuit. A Diwali red carpet also gives photographers and entertainment outlets a strong visual hook, especially if Reynolds arrives in Indian attire.

The rollout behind the premiere

The LA event is one stop in a much larger plan. Producer Namit Malhotra is preparing a global release across 125 countries and 50,000 screens worldwide, according to the report.

“This is a proud moment for India as this Diwali, 125 countries will get to learn Indian culture and Diwali celebrations,” a source quoted by the publication said.

The interplay is smart. A Diwali dress code makes the event culturally specific; Reynolds’ presence makes it broadly accessible. International outlets that might ignore a mythological adaptation will still cover a star in traditional wear.

That scale matters. Opening on 50,000 screens would position the film as a genuinely international theatrical event, not a limited specialty release. For fans, it also raises the stakes for the content itself: a global audience will meet the Ramayana through this adaptation.

The film behind the red carpet

The project adapts sage Valmiki’s ancient text for a global audience. Nitesh Tiwari directs, with a cast that already spans generations and industries.

  • Director: Nitesh Tiwari.
  • Key cast: Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Arun Govil as King Dasharatha.
  • Music: Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman share scoring duties.
  • Release: November 5, 2026, in cinemas worldwide.

Arun Govil’s presence is a nod to television history: he is widely remembered for playing Lord Rama in the 1987 serial Ramayan. The supporting ensemble also features Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh and others in key roles.

The score pairing is another headline: Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman together could give the film a sonic bridge between Bollywood and Hollywood audiences.

What to watch next

For Hindi film fans, the immediate moment is the October 27 red carpet, where the promised dress code and Reynolds’ appearance will be tested. The wider test comes on November 5, when the film opens worldwide. The scale claims are big; booking availability and word of mouth will reveal how far this Ramayana actually travels.
